Full Version: Saturday Night Live Cast Cuts

With Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch already gone to Fey's new show 30 Rock, NBC has announced additional cast cuts for the coming season. Out are Horatio Sanz, Finesse Mitchell and Chris Parnell. These three leaving is no big deal IMO as Sanz and Mitchell were just too one-note and not a particulary funny note. And Parnell's just been around too long.

The departure of Fey and Dratch will be much worse. the women have been the only real watchable parts of SNL the past couple of seasons. If you tape it and FF through the crap you could sometimes get a half hour of pretty good stuff. With Fey and Dratch gone, I'm not sure we'll get even that much.

I already miss Debbie Downer!!!

As long as this means more air time for the delicious Andy Samberg, I'm OK with it. smile.gif I do think Chris Parnell was pretty good though... he was in some funny skits. And I'll kinda miss Horatio Sanz as that wacky blonde Carol. No more Rachel Dratch and Tina Fey is very disappointing and the show loses A LOT without them. It's kind of funny though how SNL just marches on year after year. I thought losing Cheri Oteri way back when, or Molly Shannon, or Anna Gasteyer was hard too, but somehow the show manages to bring fresh, new talent to the forefront. Hopefully the replacements will be strong.

But w/o Parnell, who will Samberg pass the chronic.....les of Narnia with?

The only part I really enjoyed anymore was Weekend Update, now what? I just wish Keenan Thompson was funnier, I enjoyed him when he was on what was basically the kids' version of SNL (All That). It just seems his acting hasn't grown since then.

Who knew!

I don't care as long as Gilda is still there...

I loved that show when Mike Myers was on.Between "Linda Richmon" and "Deiter" he was almost always good for a laugh. smile.gif

That sucks! First, Stephanie Weir leaves MadTV and now Rachel leaves SNL. I knew Tina left but didn't realize Rachel would be on her show!

SNL alumnus Horatio Sanz has dropped 100 pounds... and now looks kinda hot.

Kristin Wiig is really bringing it on SNL. I didn't like her initially, but she's growing on me. On last night's show (hosted by Neil Patrick Harris) she did a great (annoying) Kathy Lee Gifford, and loved the bit where her (annoying) Penelope character says her best friends are Liza Minelli and a tomato... and then Liza shows up... with a tomato! laugh.gif

There was also a Broadway sketch that had Broadway fanboys and girls peeing their pants (ie. the Jeremy Piven reference that the rest of America didn't understand).

Overall, I thought NPH was a bit underused. But there were a few decent laughs in the show. That's all you can expect these days.

TV Guide recap.

The Kathy Lee impression was funny and I've probably had enough of Penelope, although that was a good one relatively speaking. I agree that NPH talents weren't used as well as they might have been- mostly mildly amusing stuff at best.

Exactly my thoughts. That very thing came to mind while watching last night's episode. And thankfully, SNL is using her more and more.

She peed all over that Kathy Lee bit. I enjoyed NPH during all those pelvic thrusts and booty shakin' too! yum.

Wiig is AMAZING. Penelope... Target lady (the way she says nutmeg just slays me)... the small part as the Obama terrorist crazy lady... the travel reporter on Weekend Update... the movie reviewer on Weekend Update...

Essentially, anything she does is golden.

I hollared during the Today Show segment. NPH crunking and thrusting was hilarious, but the topper was when the lady playing Hoda Kotb punched the shit out of lady playing Kathy Lee. Kathy kept callin her a ho and sayin she had no man. Hoda was like ok I got somethin for you bitch. I was like YES...will she please do that on the real Today Show. KLG grates my last nerve!!!

Everytime I tune in to this show, I last 15 laughless minutes.

The Kathie Lee-Hoda sketch wasn't nearly as funny as the typical 4th hour of the Today show each weekday. That's become my new TiVo guilty pleasure. Kathie Lee is kinda hilarious. I was never a huge fan but she's got a great sense of humor and isn't afraid to laugh at herself.

Speaking of comedy, there's no thread for this so I thought I'd add it here. I saw Sarah Silverman perform in person this weekend. What a major disappointment. I'm a huge Sarah Silverman fan, but her live show was very weak. She's still doing bits from her "Jesus is Magic" movie of a few years ago. I'd say at least 2/3 of her set was old material, and she only performed for about 50 minutes. For $80 a ticket I expected a lot more.

He is a hottie alright! I've run into him a few times down here, and a very good friend said he was working out at his gym in Hong Kong a couple of weeks back...

Betty White is hosting SNL on May 8th. And the musical guest will be.... Jay-Z!

==========

There's a promo video of Betty White on the SNL site.

Reports are saying that Glee's Jane Lynch will host Saturday Night Live on October 9th.

An absolutely awesome "drag without the drag" performance based on a SNL soundtrack, gathered 1 million views in just 48 hours and is close to 2 million by now. I have watched this about a dozen times and I just ROTFL every time.

Maybe he thought excess clothing would distract the viewer from the essential... rolleyes.gif

It seems to have worked too, 2.170 million views in YouTube and still growing...
