I think Roger Clemens has a very good chance of reaching 300 wins this season. He just notched no. 286, placing solely in possession of 24th place on the all-time list. He also struck out 8 and lowered his ERA yet again. He is now 6-2, and it will only take 14 more wins to reach 300. For many 38-39 y.o. pitchers this would be a stretch, but he reached 20-3 last year, and could win 20-21 if he remains healthy, keeps pitching wisely and well, keeps his walks down, and has a decent-hitting Yankees team behind him. Soriano is on fire and Jeter has turned it up a notch. Now, if only Giambi could get red hot. I don't expect much out of Ventura, for whom this stint is a swansong.

I was surprised to read in yesterday's paper that Rocket thought about retiring after the World Series last year - he felt another 20-win, Cy Young-winning, season capped off by starting the All-Star Game and Seventh Game of the World Series was the perfect way to end it. He decided to come back to pursue number 300. I think he has an excellent chance to do it, probably in the last two weeks of the season, but only IF there's no work stoppage, which is a big if. In any case, he says he will play out his contract, which expires after the 2003 season, so barring injury he should certainly retire with 300+ wins to his name.
PS - He'll be forty in two months. Amazing. And the rear end on that man......

Not sure if this is just a local TV ad but Direct TV (satellite co.) has Roger on and it almost looks like an old image as he seems incredibly fit in the ad. I admire his ability but his whole behavior with Piazza is a bit troubling. I admire his will to win but he was pretty low-class in those episodes.

TC, what happen between him and Piazz is soooooooo old news dude, so let it past.
Now as for him getting 300wins, He has a great chance to do it, the man gets better as he gets older! it seems like.
And I was watching on ESPN I think it was and they was showing his workout and it is exaulting to watch, so he's in great shape. And (I hate keep using "and" lol) he's sooooooooooooo good looking!! I can never keep my eyes off of him!

There's little doubt that the Rocket will easy surpass 300 wins this year. I mean, this guy looks better every year! I've seen his workout and get tired just looking at him. So far this season all his pitches are fierce, and he'd be at #287 if it wasn't for his unfortunate injury on Opening Day. I wouldn't be surprised if he reached 300 before Labor Day.

Hey, you ain't the only one. My boyfriend is obsessed with Roger - he's stocking up on Kleenex for Roger's Yankeeography this weekend. We've learned to prepare him for a program devoted to Rocketman after his SportsCentury profile on ESPN Classic earlier this week left my man, um, spent...
