I guess they're capitalizing on the success of the movie...

You guys win one World Championship...
Which is one more than what you guys have won recently.

All that needs to be said.
If attendance is all that needs to be said, I again truly feel sorry for you Cubs fans. It's a tired, old argument that doesn't work. At all.
The Cubs: winning the simulated games World Series. Winning the simulated attendance World Series. Pryor and Wood: simulated Cy Young winners.
The Chicago White Sox: WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS! That, my poor, pathetic Cubs fan, is what it's all about.

I saw enough bandwagon jumpers last fall around here to appreciate what it is to be a part of Cubs nation. I'll take a loser with loyal fans over a winner with fical fans (*cough*Braves*cough*) anyday.

And that is why your team continually fails to win. When the fans prefer to simply go to the park and lollygag around, accepting futility and mediocrity (at best) rather than winning, there is nothing else to discuss.
Baseball's ultimate prize is a World Series championship. It's rather sad and pathetic that a fan of a team would NOT want this, instead being content to wallow around in some juvenile feeling of comraderie at the ballpark.
Me? I'd much rather take a
WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP any day, and I'd bet every other baseball fan here with a modicum of common sense would agree.

Where did I say I didn't want a World Championship? If karma had anything to do with it, the Cubs should have won one by now. What I'm saying is I'm not willing to sell the team's soul (i.e. Cubs nation) for a championship. There will be no "Damn Yankees" parallels on my watch.

You don't have to sell your soul. Just don't be so blindly loyal. Don't excuse piss-poor management. I'm a die-hard, lifelong White Sox fan, but I grew quite frustrated with their management. Heck, on this board I often blasted Reinsdork and his yes man Kenny Williams; but they brought us a World Series championship.
For years I avoided most Sox games. Along with many other disgusted Sox fans, I stayed away for the most part. Our thinking was: You want us to come, build us a winning team. "If you build it he will come" is not just a Field of Dreams line.
The Cubs have got a great business plan. Think about it. If you're running a business, spending a moderate amount of money (much less than your competitors are spending) to put your product on the shelf, and it sells out constantly, is there any reason to improve upon the product?
It doesn't win any awards, like your competitors' products do. It never is #1 of its kind, like your competitors' products. It never is recognized as the best of its kind. However, it sells out all the time.
Why spend any money to improve it?
Therein lies the fundamental problem of the Cubs. They're not going to win the World Series until they undergo a radical change in management, probably even ownership.

Cubs were 9th in the league last year in payroll, four spots ahead of the Sox. So that isn't the problem. They've gone out and gotten some talent and dropped those that needed to be dropped (Sosa). You're accusing Cubs fans of blind loyalty, which is sometimes true, but I'd like to remind you how the fans turned on Sosa when he started to perform poorly. He went from the most beloved sports figure in Chicago in 1999 to somewhere far away from that when he was traded to Balitmore.
The Cubs are close to breaking through, they just need something to pull it all together. Heck, that game yesterday was impressive, even if it was against the Reds. If the Cubs would just play all season like they have the last four years on Opening Day, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

That much is true.
BTW, payroll in and of itself isn't always going to be the indicator of championships. One has to spend all that money wisely, which is what the Sox did last year.
The Cubs need to throw their money around wisely. Sometimes they do, but most of the time lately they haven't.

It looks like the Cubs may have the opposite problem of past years. The pitching staff got the team to the 2003 NLCS, but there wasn't enough hitting to win the series. Now the team has brought in some decent hitting, and the pitching staff is shot to hell.

The Cubs problem is the owners The Tribune Company. All they want is to fill the park and make money. I admit I already have tickets for a few games. Besides making big bucks they want to bring their advertisers from around the world and wine them and dine them at Wigley Field. The also made money by broadcasting the games on their radio sation and about half of the games on TV.
I have to admit it's a great outing. I take the train in from Indiana walk two blocks and take the el to the front gate. Also since boy's town is only a couple blocks away, I go eat and have a few drinks before going home.
Not to mention their completely despicable way of scalping tickets to their fans. It didn't surprise me when a politically elected county judge ruled in the Cubs favor when fans sued the Cubs over this scheme.
Where else could an MLB team get away with selling their tickets to some shell company owned by them--across the street from Wrigley Field no less!--then using this sham company to resell these tickets to the fans at scalpers' and brokers' prices? Unbelievable!

Gawd I hate whiney cub fans!
Yes you all won the city wide attendance award. NO ONE CARES ABOUT THAT AWARD!
The White Sox won the only prize that counts: The World Series Trophy. Get over it.

Yeah, and I'm already tired of the Cub haters. Hey, a new record, it's only April 4th!
