He was 86 years old. Among other things, he worked on NBC's Game of the Week for years back in the 60s and 70s.

He also worked one or two games for ESPN, teaming with Berman when they were bringing back the "classic" announcers to call baseball games. I think that was just two years ago, and he still had it. He was also host of "The American Sportsman," the original hunting and fishing TV show ...Called a Super Bowl or two in his time. Even worked the Olympics for NBC in the early 70's.

Too bad some of today's "announcers" weren't around to hear Gowdy. Maybe they'd learn that you don't need shickt (sp) to be successful.

Shtick or no shtick, I thought Gowdy (dull) and Tony Kubek (shallow) were crap doing NBC baseball when I was a kid.
