Ooooo - forget about Roshan. Give me
Shahrukh Khan anytime. He is at his best in
Devdas. The "I'm crying because I love you so much that it hurts" segments are just gems - no one can turn on the faucet like my Shahrukh.
While on Bollywood, the latest Bollywood/Hollywood fusion is just about to hit our shores (not sure if it's already been shown in the US). It's called, wait for it, "Bride and Prejudice", gettit, gettit, "
Bride and Prejudice" (i.e "
Pride and Prejudice"). Oh those Indian wags.
Devdas is also loosely based on Romeo and Juliet and to me, represents Bollywood at its best. Lavish costumes, dance and song numbers and the highlight, in the opening song and dance number the grand "supposed-to-be-marble" staircase that you can tell is just cheap plywood knocked up by the carpenters out in the back parking lot, because as the cast dance and sing themselves silly up and down the staircase, you can see it wobble and you just know that it was about to collapse if only they did that one last spin and turn - who cares about health and safety.
