Westlife singer Mark Feehily has revealed he is gay. The boy band star told The Sun newspaper: "I am gay and I'm very proud of who I am.
"I'm not asking for any sympathy, or to be a role model to anyone else," he said, adding it was "the right time" to let people know the truth.
With legions of female fans, Westlife have had 12 UK number ones since 1999.

Feehily, 25, added: "I'm not worried about how people react because I'm happy being who I am."

His family and bandmates were already aware of his sexuality, he said, and he is now in a relationship with Kevin McDaid from boy band V.

"I'm happy, and... I've found someone who is a real companion," he said.

I don't have a clue as to who that is!

Uh, I thought they all are gay (not that I listen to manufactured, pubescent Brit pop or anything).

Isn't the first Pop Idol winner gay too?

Actually the group did an album of 'Brat Pack' standards recently that are not... bad.

Not great, but not as bad as I had feared when a friend forced me to listen to them one afternoon.

The arrangements and mix are overdone, but the guys do have some decent vocal ability, even if it was wasted here. I had never heard them before.

yes, Will Young. He's still going pretty strong in terms of sales.

Will Young...is he the one with the lisp?

Why can't it be Mark McGrath? Or Nick Lachey?

It seems to be a trend, the European boybands having a member come out.

I don't expect anyone to have a clue who they are but there were 2 boybands, one Irish, called "Boyzone" (with Ronan Keating, a cutie whom you might know), and a Dutch boyband called "Caught in the Act." They were all popular in the early to mid-1990's and I think they have both since broken up. They came to fame when "Take That" with Robbie Williams came to prominence in Europe.

Anyway...my point, if there is one, is that Steven from Boyzone came out, sometime around 1999-2000 and said that he was together with Eloy from Caught in the Act but it didn't affect their sales there. The Dutch group had broken up already and Boyzone's girl fans said they supported Steven. No one here in America knows who they are except for the people who lived in Europe like I did but the trend there seems to be for a boyband member to come out and be involved with another member of some other boyband!

I agree, though! I'd like someone prominent and someone we know to come out!

Steven Gately is a cutie!

If you're in NYC, there's an off broadway musical parodying boy bands and the different "character types" that are represented in boy bands - the cute one, the bad boy, the shy one, the ugly one, the ga...artistic one. It's called "Altar Boyz" and it's about a Chrstian Boy Band. One member (the really effeminite one) comes out in the show...as being Cathloic!

Oh, I know Ronan Keating. I have all of his solo albums. Very gorgeous, very straight... I think he and his wife of several years just had their second child.

Ronan Keating is the producer/manager of Westlife, I think.

There isn't a "gaffaw" Instant Graemlin, but if there was one, I'd insert it now!

Anyway, after Stephen Gately (Boyzone) came out and then came out with his solo CD New Beginning; I bought it just for fun - the japanese import that is. There are some funny little songs on there but he did score a coup by getting one of his songs on the Billy Elliott soundtrack. Sadly, he was dropped by his label, broke up with Eloy and did presenting gigs and eventually ended up on the roadshow to Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Old Navy Pullover or whatever. Maybe Westlife singer Mark Feehily won't suffer the same fate. Or maybe he can do the roadshow for The Boy from Oz.

What was that TV show that used to run on ABC on Friday nights about five years ago? Making the Band, something like that? It was about a group that the same guy in Florida who was behind a few other boy bands (if not boy band members) was trying to turn into a success. O-Town, was that the name of the group?

I could Google, but the link would be in my computer's history. Some things really are too embarrassing.
