Does anyone else watch this show? Ugh..it is such a guilty pleasure for me cuz I love it. The lady whose son wants to be a baseball player is dreamy. He's a virgin too which turns me on to him even more.

Jo, who is engaged to the man 12 years older than her with the 2 kids from a previous relationship is gorgeous but I could never be totally financially dependent on a man. Too many women are left with nothing when their husbands decide to trade them in for a newer model.

I have a short list of like 4 TV shows that are must-sees each week... and "The Real Housewives" has made that list. It is definitely one of those train wreck shows where you just can't turn away. It is far, far more interesting than Desperate Housewives because these women actually live that way.

Shane is hot.

A parade of the worst people imaginable. Makes my blood boil and my jaw drop. Not since Queer as Folk ended have I felt such seething hostility towards the vain, shallow, and stupid.

I honestly believe the world would be a better place if all these people just evaporated into thin air.
mdterp01
Geez...but that is how some people exist. I mean I always hated how people with money who can lounge and play golf and live in multimillion dollar houses get criticized by people who are like "ugh you don't have "real" problems. Well hey...you are a product of your environment. I grew up with successful parents and yeah my issues were being upset because I couldn't use the pool because of a drainage problem while others are struggling to make the rent. But, that was my world. I can't help what other people go through. Such is life. I agree that it is more interesting than Desperate Housewives because its real. I love it love it love it because some of these moms remind me of moms and MILFS around my neighborhood I grew up with.

There are plenty of people of means who actually do work, and have some concept about what life is like for people outside of their bubble, though. Money doesn't automatically make you shrill and spoiled.

But the people on this show are just beyond hope. I mean, come on - anyone who drives a Hummer is just automatically an ass****.

This show has become one of my favorite trainwrecks to watch. Proof that money doesn't buy brains or class.

The 18 year virgin baseball player is real cutel Jo certainly seemed to like to have him over to shoot rabbits and got her fiance Slade Smiley (yes that is his name) jealous. Loved the get a room comment.

I guess when all you basic needs are met there is nothing else to do but become vapid.

Not all rich people live like this. I know a family that is extremely well off. They live in a nice older home that this people would could consider tiny (2300 sq ft). They drive cars that even I can afford. They do take some real nice vacations. Their kids all had their own jobs when they were in their teens and college so they can help pay their own way. The probably don't have any debt. They tend to contribute a lot of money to causes. I think they have so much money, because the don't spend that much. The woman is in her 50s, she looks her age, she is fit and attractive, but has had no work done. So yes it is possible to be rich and down to earth. But I also think it was in spite of their wealth, rather than because.
mdterp01
Surely I'm not suggesting all people with money live shallow, superficial lives. All I'm sayin is that for many you are a product of your environment and that is reality for many people.

I think Slade is kind of an ass**** but I certainly wouldn't kick him out of bed. His youngest son is adorable. I personally don't like Hummers but it suits him well. He definitely has that "I have to be seen" arrogance.

Slade does seem to care about his kids and treats them well. But he treats Jo like a possession and servant. Now I wouldn't kick him out bed. He is definetly a looker. Though I probably would keep him gagged, so ass**** comments don't come spilling out of his mouth.

This show keeps getting better and better. This week's episode was another great one. Jo on RH is about as close to Gabrielle of DH as possible. I like Slade... he may treat Jo as a possession, but Jo knows full well what she's getting out of the relationship too. They're perfect for each other in my opinion. I'm really starting to wonder if this show ends in tragedy (i.e. the melanoma scare) because it was taped a year ago (as this week's show was a Father's Day 2005 episode).

I am surprised no one has mentioned the gay vibes emanating from Shane. He's an 18 year old virgin who is not into girls?

I decided to resurrect this thread because as a Catholic, and with Mr. Ratzinger coming into town today, I needed a forum to acknowledge my great sin, and decided the Outsports forums was as good a place for confession as any. I have prided myself on not watching most reality programs - no Survivor, American Idol, Greatest Race, Newlyweds, Surreal Life, etc. I do love Project Runway, but rationalize that because it is a competition based on talent.

I have a Sirius subscription and love the LGBT station, Sirius OutQ. Their morning program is obsessed with the "Real Wives" franchise, and is having Bethany from the NYC show on tomorrow AM. Then last Saturday, while working out at home, I decided to see what the fuss was about and put on the mini-marathon of "Real Wives: NYC" edition. OH MY GOD - theOtherFSU is totally right. It is a train wreck that is both horrifying and compulsively addictive at the same time. I have no idea of the OC and NYC versions are similar, but I cannot believe any self-respecting person would allow this level of voyeurism into their lives. The "old money" people I went to college with followed the adage that one's name should be in the paper three times - birth, marriage and death - and all other publicity was tacky, so clearly the women who volunteer for these shows are not of that ilk.

I don't know if anyone else has been watching the NYC episodes (finale tonight), but I cannot believe the crew of noveau riche, social climbing wannabes they producers were able to find. Watching these five women discuss "class" was like watching a group of rabbis discuss the best ways to cook ham - they may have some minor experience with the topic, but it ain't like they're experts. LuAnn, the "Countess," in particular is completely offensive. Hiring someone else to raise your children and complaining about them when they want to spend time with you is the exact opposite of class.
TheOtherFSU
Yeah I'm still moderately obsessed with this series. It's not really 'appointment television' for me... but I do TiVo them all and then watch a few in a row at one time. Bethany is one of the New York housewives I've taken an interest in because she was on the Martha Stewart Apprentice reality show a few years ago (in its one and only season). She finished as the runner-up. I like her... she's about the most normal of all of them (if there is such a thing). I like the Orange County version a little better but this NY one is interesting too. And yeah I just can't imagine letting cameras into my life that much, and I'm shocked at how these people don't really seem to care how badly they're portrayed.

CPT_Doom, you're right about LuAnn. My gawd. She's ridiculous. If I remember correctly, she's the one who stormed out of the runway show during Fashion Week because she arrived to find that she was seated in the (gasp!) second row rather than the first! Hopefully I'm thinking of the right woman. I'm a few episodes behind in viewing them right now.

Actually, that was Jill, who played with LuAnn in the Hamptons tennis match. LuAnn is the one who was offended when Bethany introduced her to the driver by her first name.

I love Luann. She's about the only one I like, although Jill is growing on me. I can't stand Alex (now that's faux novea riche!), and Bethenny drives me crazy. I hope it's just editting that makes her looks so desperate for a man. She's nuts!

I thought it was a bit much when Luann flipped out when Bethenny introduced her to "the help" by the first name. I did laugh when Bethenny went off about that.

This show is nowhere near as good as the Orange County one.
TheOtherFSU
So I finally caught up with the entire season of the NYC housewives and did a mini-marathon this weekend. The more I watch the NYC group, the more interesting I find them. In a lot of ways, I'm now liking it more than the OC group. I love Bethenny! She is hilarious, and way too normal for a show like this. But that's also why I think it works so well.... she says what a lot of viewers are thinking while watching the rest of these nuts.

The whole Alex-Simon thing is bizarre. And OMG, Bethenny was hilarious when she went to their house for Francois' birthday party. What is up with their house?! These people are supposedly extremely wealthy yet they live like that? It doesn't make sense. In fact, it's pretty clear that they only care about portraying themselves as rich in public, because they certainly don't live in luxury at home. Bethenny's reaction to Francois beating up the hamburger had me hyperventilating with laughter.

I like all the women in the show, except I have some trouble understanding and liking Ramona... good that she has a very well grounded daughter and a yummy looking husband.
Speaking of daughter, I haven't really seen a real bratty child in RHONY... well, except Francois... LuAnn's daughter is really pretty.

Betheny--- Jekyll and Hyde. I think in the next season, the onion will keep peeling and we'll find out that there's some child abuse that went in her life. She's ready to crack--- and if she doesn't get married soon...

Alex--- poor Alex (literally), but there's something grounded about her. And she and Simon seem genuinely love each other, and really can't live without the other. I like seeing that.

Jill--- I like her, but among the bunch, she's the one you can easily be offended because she talks loud, but she's really harmless, and really lovable and giving. I'd like to be her gay husband (how am I going to get rid of her current one?)

LuAnn--- she's the Real Housewife of New York... like her a lot. She's so pretty, and the title really glues these women together (because they all want to be her buddy).

I got sucked into this show and I really like LuAnn. She seems the most normal of the group, even with the countess thing.

Betheny is a lady that could go out and swill a beer with you.

Ramona is a mess. She is likable at some points but other times, she is a complete nut.

Reunion show tonight. Should be fun.
