ST. PARIS | Well into her second season of varsity football at Graham High, Rachel Campbell thought she pretty much had run the gamut of experiences.

After she kicked five straight extra points against a Clark County team last season, one of the rival coaches called her an obscene name. This year during postgame handshakes with another nearby school, some of the opposing players — to the anger of her teammates — greeted her with a smutty term.

On the flip side, there was the starry-eyed guy from another team who took her hand after another game and with smitten salutation, looked into her brown eyes and asked her for her phone number.

And then there was the game against Springfield Northwestern. "We were standing on our sidelines and we could hear their band girls talking about how nice our guys' butts were," Campbell said with a grin. "They were going down the line rating them and sure enough, we hear ’em say, 'Hey, No. 15, Nice Butt!' Actually, I was kind of proud that, at least in football pants I get a compliment. But that's when some of our guys turned around and said, 'Hey, you know she's a girl?' And they go, 'A girl? What's a girl doing on the football team?' ”
