Who will win? Take the poll. Who do you want to win? Discuss. Should I even watch? Persuade me. wink
scottie
I'll be happy if either team wins. Because Boston fans have lived with the "curse" forever, my heart lies with the Red Sox, although another part of my body would be more much excited by a Cardinals win. wink

Sox in 6 is leading at the polls. No Margin of Error is factored in though.

I will be getting into Boston sometime early on Saturday Morning - Oct 23.

Although I have guests (Eight of us finally decided to come back [yes, we do have tickets - thank you], so I do have some responsibilities), I would be very interested in meeting any other Outsports people who are in town for the Series.

We will be commutting and attending ALL the games. (I won't say its ONCE in a lifetime; but it is only the second time in MY lifetime - so I intend to enjoy it.)

Maybe join us for Dinner before or a beer after at least one of the games in Boston? Maybe the Oak Room, Anam Cara or MJ OConners?

biggrin.gif When we win wink , the party I throw will eclipse that other famous party in Boston Legend!

Sorry Jim, it's now a tie with Cardinals in 7. Yeah, another seven-game World Series! It's a tight race, just like the presidential elections!
pat125
I don't believe in curses, but I think this world series will go just like the last 4 Red Sox World Series. Cardinals have an outstanding hitting team, and there pitching should match up well enough with the Red Sox. Cardinals in 7.

I think it's going to seven games and was torn as to which team will win. Ultimately, since I prefer the NL, I went with the Cards. If we do get to a seventh game, it'll be on Halloween--good night to deal with a curse! wink

It does not matter to me who wins as long as the series is exciting.

Now for some interesting news:

I am in Quincy MA this weekend for a project I am working on. I am staying at the Quincy Marriott as usual, and notice alot of security. So guess who is staying here, none other than the Cardinals. A small group of fans (10-15) were hanging out in the lobby in the hope of snagging an autograph.

I had dinner with a colleague in the restaurant, then we went to the lounge for drinks. We sit at the bar across from a table of "beautiful people". Who are they? Four attractive women with Jeff Suppan, Jason Isringhausen, Jim Edmonds and Ray King. It was just so weird being right across from them. Three players were wearing suits except for Edmunds wearing a turtleneck and jeans. Jason was sporting tight olive green trousers that displayed a beefy butt.

I am not one to be hounding autographs, (I guess I am shy) but every time one of the players got up to go to the restroom or walk by the "fan-parazzi" would follow to get a signature. I wish I was hounded like that. tongue.gif

No sight of Rolen or Pujols but I did see Marlon Anderson and Edgar Renteria walk by in the lobby. Hopefully I will see the rest of the players tommorrow and be a bit more courageous in saying hello.

You mean you didn't follow them to the restroom?! eek! What kind of stalker are you? wink biggrin.gif

This past summer I stalked Tino Martinez and Fred McGriff in the Eaton Centre in Toronto (while giving pat125 the play-by-play on my cell phone). At one point Tino brushed up against my arm as I was leaning on a post... I haven't washed that arm since! tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Should be interesting to see how (if) the Cards can hit Tim Wakefield's knuckleball tonight, and then how David Ortiz will handle the defensive duties at first base for games 3-4-(5) in St. Louis.

Tonight, I'll be wearing my Patriots t-shirt (again), eating leftover casserole (again), spinning the new REM disc (again), then watching the game, just like I did for the last 4 games of the ALCS. Mojo is working!!

(N.B. By posting this magical Mojo formula, I trust that I have not de-Mojoed myself or my Sox, nor nullified any deals with the devil I may have previously entered into. wink )

When we find these poor misguided, mentally ill couples we have them committed for their own protection during a downward spiraling session of grief and loss that generally occurs any time they lose a single regular season game.

Tough decision since I'm a National League Giants and Astros fan. But I'm going to have to root for the Red Sox, I guess for one reason because the Cards soundly defeated my beloved Astros and secondly, well, just because I'd like to see the Red Sox win for some reason. I'm not calling the series either way, these are both great teams. Different styles. This is going to be a terrific series. Good luck to both.
canmark
They're announcing the starting lineups for game 1.... and the Outsports voting is Cards over Red Sox 15-14.

Who did they just boo on the Red Sox team and why? He was way hot.

A nice tribute to Victoria Snelgrove, the young lady who died during the celebrations in Boston the other night. I certainly hope fans and police will show restraint in order to avoid another tragedy like this.

Ouch! Steve Tyler ought to stick to singing 'Dream On'.

I don't know if it's customary to introduce the Batboys, but each of those guys looked old enough to be called Batman. Although I suppose then they would need to be wearing capes.

Play ball!

phillyrunner, just saw your post--I'm so jealous. views of beefy butt always does it for me.
shore
I love David Ortiz--just seems like a good man and such a clutch player, please tell me he doesn't have the taint of steroids.

And what is Theo Epstein's story? Such a looker, would make some man very happy, but I wouldn't want his job--can you imagine the pressure? And at 30 years old? He should be out having fun instead of losing sleep over a game.

It's a clean team, Ortiz is just a natural BIG PAPI. (Woof!)

And don't feel sorry for Theo, you can rest assured he's having the time of his life!

Wonder how much the vendors are charging for a Fenway Frank tonight? (Normally they're $3.75.)

I haven't noticed one single fan talking on their cell phone while they wave at the camera -- classy crowd!

Now back to the regularly scheduled ballgame...
fenwayguy
LaRussa put in a starting pitcher as pinch runner? Very strange... and not much of a runner at that!

Manny's got his head up his butt tonight, too. frown
Joe in Philly
Oh, there's a game tonight? wink Actually, I've watched some of it but I'm sorry, I couldn't stay interested in this game. I've been swtiching back and forth between the World Series, different college football games, and a South Park greatest-episodes marathon. I turned the game back on to see Manny Ramirez make his second error in the 8th inning to allow the tying run to score. D'oh! But Scott Rolen with the bases loaded came up wayyyyyy short. Pop up on the first pitch, and 0-for-5 on the night. Red Sox win. Seph's Mojo is 5-0. wink

Tomorrow night I am definitely watching "Desperate Housewives" instead of taping it like I did this past Sunday. biggrin.gif

Oh, and the losing pitcher? Julian Tavarez. Bwahahahahahahahaha! Wait...maybe this can be the deciding factor in whether or not I root for either team...should I throw my support, for what little it's worth, behind Red Sox Nation?

I hope and fully expect the Cardinals to "test" Schilling's mobility by laying down a bunt or two, unlike the Yankees--still don't understand why they didn't make him move off the mound.

I have been quite surprised that the Red Sox have been able to over come their deplorable defense. Four errors last night and four so far tonight in six innings. Bill Mueller has not looked sharp at third. I suppose as long as the offense continues pounding out hits no one will care.

By the way Scottie, I finally saw Rolen yesterday at the hotel and he was one of the few not signing autographs at the hotel.

I'm glad I wasn't watching this game until after "Desperate Housewives." And after reading an article at the Phila. Inquirer website featuring Schilling running off his mouth again, frankly, the news from this article makes me happy:

QUOTE
Curt Schilling might not be able to make a second start in the World Series because the unprecedented surgical procedure to stitch together his injured right ankle might be too damaging to keep repeating.

Team physician Bill Morgan told The Associated Press the team might have to pull the plug on the experiment after Schilling experienced significant discomfort before his start in Game 2 of the World Series against St. Louis.

Schilling's Sunday start was never in jeopardy, but he might not be able to return for a sixth game, if necessary. Boston led the Cardinals 1-0 in the best-of-seven series after Saturday night's 11-9 victory.

``Honestly, we may not be able to do it a third time,'' Morgan said. ``It depends on what his tissues look like.''
Veritas
How come we can't see players' crotch shots like this? This actually happened. Pay very close attention to the chick standing behind the plate, just to the right of the plate umpire as he's standing. She's got a pinkish, white top on, though not all of it for very long. And it made it on TV apparently. Where's the FCC? biggrin.gif

Normally the Canadian network (Sportsnet, in this case) would be simulcasting the FOX coverage (as they did in the previous playoff series), but it seems like for the World Series they are showing alternate coverage. How is this possible? Doesn't FOX have the exclusive rights to the World Series? But there are different announcers (no Tim McCarver!), and they show the official MLB 'World Series' logo when they show the scores on screen (so it seems like this is 'official' coverage). And when they show those ads on the backstop behind home plate they are Canadian ads (McCain frozen pizza, for example, instead of John Hancock).

6-2! RSox!

"...Guess who just got back today?
Those wild-eyed boys that had been away
Haven't changed, haven't much to say
But man, I still think those cats are crazy

They were asking if you were around
How you was, and where you could be found
I told them you were living downtown
Driving all the old men crazy

The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town..."

Yet another reason to move to Canada.

Perhaps Fox only has exclusive rights in the USA, but it would've been too expensive for Sportsnet to cover all of those playoff series, so they only are doing the World Series.

I wondered about this too, Canmark. As you said, the previous playoff series on Sportsnet were simply Fox simulcasts. I switched from Fox to Sportsnet tonight, for no particular reason, not knowing there would be different announcers. But lo and behold, no Tim McCarver and no Joe Buck urging me to 'grab a fresh cold Budweiser' (I'll stick with my Canuck brew, thanks smile.gif ). The announcers on the Sportsnet channel were Dave O'Brien and former pitcher Rick Sutcliffe, who I believe are employed by ESPN in the US. Overall, I was satisfied with their play by play, although they did seem rather biased in favour of the Red Sox. Between innings we had analysis by the usual pairing of Jamie Campbell and Warren Sawkiw.

Four errors (again) by the Red Sox defense, three of them on Bill Mueller. But it didn't really hurt them. I'm impressed by the improvement of Mark Bellhorn's hitting in recent games after a lacklustre performance earlier in the playoffs.

Does anyone see a pattern here with IT Jock? Quick, before Game 3 could a Cardinals' fan please find the lyrics to Judy Garland's 'Meet Me in St Louis'? biggrin.gif
ung
ok... I'm finally over grieving for the Yankee's elimination. I think tradition has it that I must wear a black veil and wail at the moon for 5 nights before I can resume normal life.

now that I don't have my team (the Yanks) to root for and I don't have "the hot team" (the Astros with Ausmus, Kent, Clemens and crew) to root for as a default team.... I don't know what to do.

I guess I'll root for the Cardinals simply because I'm afraid the entire city of Boston would go up in a riot culminating in a nuclear holocaust should they break the curse. I mean.... look what happened when they just won the pennant.

and let's face it, Scott Rolen look sgood running the bases. I've watched Jim Edmonds diving for that amazing catch at least a billion times (and each time... I never am looking at the ball... just Jim's delicious bootie) and Mike Matheny has legs and ass that look beter than anything Renoir ever painted.
Adam
Am I the only one getting slightly creeped out every time a description of Franken-ankle's surgery is presented? And how much do you think one of his bloody socks would get on e-bay?

Are the Red Sox errors really caused by the cold weather in Boston?? If cold weather is that much of a factor, wouldn't the Cards also be more error-prone? Their defense has been solid; it's their pitching and hitting that seems to have gone missing.

~Adam

You're not alone Adam. I heard the "lush" description yesterday, and all I can say is its a good thing I wasn't eating! eek!

Those of us who are Auburn alums are proud that Bellhorn is one of our own. I hope the boy keeps hitting the way he has the last few games.

We had the games on Saturday and Sunday nights and there were alot of guys really watching and cheering. Almost brought a tear to this sports fag's eye! biggrin.gif

Made me curious though. Several years ago very few guys would have been paying attention to the game, any game for that matter. I think gay sports fans are really coming out of the closet! It's more okay than ever for a man to love a man AND love sports! Hallelujah!!!

Sportsnet is showing the Fox International coverage (mercifully bereft of things like Scooter, the animated baseball), which allows them to insert their own virtual advertising. They are also showing fewer commercials, which allows for the between-innings commentary by Campbell and Sawkiw.
