Has there ever been an SEC tourney played without all three of these teams? We're on track for what could be a first.

Predictions for next weekend: Arkansas takes two of three or registers a sweep vs. Auburn and wins the regular season SEC title.
But what do I know. lol Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss may have different plans.

It should be a very intersting weekend with some big series...UGA-USC in Athens, uf at knoxville, auburn at ark and Ole Miss hosting LSU. Six teams are in the tournament: UGA, USC, UF, Ole Miss, Arkansas and LSU. Vandy and UT have the next best records over the other teams from the West. It looks to be a great weekend for SEC baseball!

The six teams that are already in the SEC tourney are also within one game of each other and the SEC championship. The champion will be decided on the last day and head-to-head competition will come into play. I plan on going to Athens on Saturday, and maybe on Friday to cheer on the Gamecocks. A Sweep of UGA would be nice but not likely as both teams are really hot right now. Old Miss is riding high now too.

Go War Eagle. We need two wins by Auburn this weekend in Arkansas!!! A sweep of UGA won't be enough for USC to win the SEC title. Some other things need to happen too, like Ol' Miss losing at least one game, and LSU losing a game. It could happen. wink

If there's going to be a sweep in Athens, it will be the Dawgs sweeping the Cocks. UGA takes the first two games, 5-1 last night and 6-4 today. I got to see two good games played by two good teams. USC came in with a great record, 40-13, but the Dawgs got some very timely hitting to win the SEC East championship. It now comes down to tomorrow's games to determine the league champ.

At least the Gamecocks salvaged the third game of their weekend series in Athens today and avoided being swept by the Dawgs....the Cocks, who finished 41-15 overall and 17-13 in the conference, will go into the SEC tourney beginning Wednesday as the #5 seed.
It's time to get back to Omaha this year and make sure the National Championship trophy doesn't end up in the hands of those Texans from Rice or UT again (even though the Owls did have a LOT of cute studs on the team last year that I wouldn't mind seeing on the field again

Well, billsf, our beloved Longhorns play Oklahoma State in the semifinals today at 1pm central time. If they win they have to play again this evening at 8pm central, but they are eliminated if they lose. The SEC Championship game came down to the last pitch; a double play ball hit by Vandy's Ryan Klosterman, to clinch USC's first ever SEC Tourney championship. Just before tha game started, it was announced that USC along with Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Mississippi will all be host in the first round of the NCAA college baseball tourney. There may be as many as 9 teams from the SEC in the tourney should Tennessee and MSU get invited. UT, having won the first round game in the SEC should be in, but MSU will have more trouble but can get in based on reputation, fan loyalty, and the tough SEC schedule.

Despite not winning the Big XII conference tournament the Texas Longhorns were selected as
the #1 overall seed among the 64 teams that will be competing in the NCAA Regionals next weekend....the remainder of the top 8 seeds are defending champ Rice, Miami (who will be making a record 32nd straight appearance), Stanford, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Arizona State and SOUTH CAROLINA (GO COCKS!!).
A record NINE teams were selected from the SEC, including Mississippi State, the only team to receive an invite despite not qualifying for its own postseason conference tourney -- a testament to the strength of collegiate baseball in the southeast this year.
It should be a great tournament once again....the fun begins on Friday.

After all of the dust has cleared, it may be a South Carolina/Texas matchup in the final game of the College World Series, just as it was two years ago in 2002. The Gamecocks and the Longhorns both have good teams, but there is so much more parity in college baseball now, that any team can beat you on any given day.

With that kind of predictive power, where's my photo credential for the NFL?!!
Of the 4, Washington clearly had the most team spirit. They were all VERY supportive of each other, cheering & consoling throughout the game. The worst was UCLA, where they barely talked to each other in the dugout.

Texas Longhorns advance to the Championship game after beating Oral Roberts 7-5 today!
You can buy ESPN's College Grand Slam package for $19.95 in order to get all the Super Regional games next Friday - Monday. I think I'm going to do it since out here in the Bay Area they'll probably show Stanford (who I don't really follow) and otherwise just whip back and forth between all the different games. So, I would have very little chance to see a complete Longhorn game. The package is available whether you have Directv or the Dish network, and cable subscribers can buy it also.

This will be a very interesting upcoming weekend!! First, as a reminder to HornFan and billsf, our beloved Horns are attempting to make the College World Series for the 31st time, to extend their NCAA record. They will be hosting a hungry Vanderbilt team that beat Virginia on their home turf. Vanderbilt, along with Tulane and Arizona are the Cinderellas of this tourney, so far, and Vanderbilt is attempting to make its first ever trip to the CWS.
The other seven matchups will be:
Texas A&M(who defeated defending champion, Rice on their home field) at perennial power, LSU
Florida @ Miami
Georgia @ Georgia Tech
Arizona @ Long Beach State
Florida State @ Arkansas
East Carolina @ South Carolina
Tulane @ Cal State Fullerton
The winner of each of these best-of-three series will be going to to Omaha next week for the College World Series which begin June 18th. Almost all of the games will shown on ESPN or ESPN2. Here is the Super Regional schedule link:

Can college baseball seriously be sold out???
Definitely. It happens all the time at regionals and for big conference series during the regular season. From my own experience, just try walking up to the gate to get a ticket for the Saturday or Sunday Auburn-LSU or Auburn-Alabama game and often the Auburn-Miss. State game. Ain't gonna happen. Baseball is very important to several SEC, Big 12 and Pac 10 schools.
As far as your situation goes, I doubt Sunday tickets have gone on sale yet, since they don't know whether it needs to be played. I'd check back on when those tickets will be available if the teams split tomorrow and Saturday.

Speaking of sold out, The Gamecocks and Pirates series was sold out by Monday, and standing room only tickets were sold out too. The "Sarge", named for the late Sarge Frey (sp)(you'll see his name on the Cocks' hats as he died this past year)holds just over 5,000. It's big but not the biggest or best I've seen, but the atmosphere is beyond reproach. Plans are in place to build a new stadium to accommodate all the fans who want to go to the games.
