Does anyone know of any gay rugby tournaments in the States this year?

Why don't you start with this link:
International Gay Rugby Association and Board

It's the Twin Cities for you in 2010

Fans (and non-fans) of rugby might want to check out the Finnish film Freetime Machos. The film looks at members of a not-so-good amateur rugby team in Oulu, Finland, and the male bonding and friendship amongst the team members. In particular, it focuses on the friendship between the dude Matti (engaged, but still wild and exuberant) and the more mature Mikko (who is married with 4 small children and a fifth on the way). In an often funny, almost reality TV-like way they discuss sex and masculinity, friendship and homosexuality, and, combined with the other 'characters' (it's actually a documentary, but the people are such characters), such as the British coach Roger, the serious writer Jarmo and the gay, partly out teammate Tuomo, the movie is a fun slice of life.

That was a nice little trailer for what looks like a fine documentary--well filmed and edited. It recalls for me the Heartland Rugby series of New Zealand that is just above club level, below professional, but still real with lots of grass roots personality.

College Rugby Sevens playoffs June 5-6, 4pm-6pm; fast-paced and hot.

Seven to a side, two continuos seven minute halves. Field about the same size as American football.

Great way to get introduced to the game...and some truly awesome athletes.

I know it's a cliche but I can't help getting a little lump in my throat when Bowling Green's (of Ohio) players and coach talk about the camaraderie and diversity (of body types) who can play rugby.

Though I think the players are slightly chunkier than aerobic nominally non-contact sports like soccer and basketball, and slimmer than the other full-contact sports like American football.

They are closer in build to wrestlers without weight categories, and a lot more aerobic endurance.
