The World Wrestling Federation has changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment. Apparently this was brought on by a longstanding conflict with the World Wildlife Fund. I remember reading about 6 months ago that a court had ordered the WWF to stop using those initials, and to give up use of the website
www.wwf.com. Of course the name change also more clearly reflects the actual nature of professional wrestling, now that they openly refer to "storylines" and admit that the outcomes of the matches are predetermined. I used to get a kick out of watching the WCW, but never did care for the WWF and Vince McMahan's involvement (and his family's involvement) in the storylines.

Being a Pro-Wrestling fan all of my life!!!
Its sucks that the WWF had to change there name, and I know people dont respect pro-wrestling
BUT I DO!!!
and I've always wanted to be a pro-wrestler, but for the WWF to change there name to WWE it just doesn't sound right to me, It'll take time for me to get used of it.
oh and Cowboyshskrfan, very funny comment!!

I love the WWF and I honestly don't think that changing the name is gonna make too big of a difference. The WWF(E) is incredible at marketing and they are using this to their advantage like they always do. Vince McMahon is a genius!!

Actually, Vince McMahon is a baboon, or at least plays one on TV. His abilities are in the ring. The marketing genius is his wife Linda. You'll notice she's the sole source quoted
in the story.

Your half right, Linda is half of the marketing genius,
but... to call vince a baboon? you oviously haven't been watching the WWE because he made the WWE what it is today he's been the MAN for a longtime!!! and he has ALL THE POWER!!! so yes his wife has some say in decsions that are made in the company but he always have the final say and he has the final say on everthing that happens in the WWE, so Vince is a EVIL Genius!!! lol

GET THE"F" OUTTA HERE! That proves how intelligent the McMahons are! What a "catch phrase"! I have been a long time WWF fan, and think they got screwed! However instead of going back to the WWWF they chose to go WWE, and "Get the F outta here!" brilliant 4 sure!

The "F" has never bothered me. But that second "W" does. I wish they would find something else to call it besides Wrestling. The entertainment provided by the WW(F/E) has its merits and its fans, but it doesn't have anything to do with the ancient and honorable sport of wrestling, the Oldest Sport. WWx is more like the Oldest Profession. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course...

The whole WWF thing goes back a couple decades, its just that the World Wildlife Fund finally won a lawsuit this time. They tried a long time ago and lost the same suit. So go figure. Just goes to show that fuzzy animals always win the hearts of men.
However, Linda McMahon is always the one quoted because she is the CEO of the company since they became a pubically traded corporation. Vince can not make statements on behalf of major corporate decisions. He is only the Chairman. Though, theyre both evil geniuses. They took a carnival side show and made it a billion dollar industry. Even AOL Time Warner couldnt keep their end up of the ship afloat as long as the WWE has!
And yes this qualifies as an "other" sport since my article on the subject was good enough to make the front page of Outsports. I dont see any Cowboys articles on there

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. Any event where the outcome is predetermined is not a sport. Its an entertainment or exhibition. The wrestlers, most of them anyway, are in great shape and many are probably fine athletes. But a sport it ain't!

pro-wrestling may be predetermine, but those wrestlers are some of the best athletes in the world!! not many people can do the things they do in the ring, and its alot of hard work that takes years of decation, so try to show Wrestling some repsect, will ya!!

I agree GIL! WWE has some AWESOME athletes! Watch some of Jeff Hardys moves, some of the stuff kurt Angle does! Chris Benoit is phenominal! My fav is "THE ROCK" he knows how to entertain a crowd! Lita is gr8, and Trish Stratus has come a long way! The matches ay be predermined, but athletes they all are! I remember when I was younger and thought "No way would somebody lose a match cuz he/she was told too!" The idea blew my mind, but take Pro Wrestling for the entertainent it is, and you will behooked! I LOVE IT!!!

Gotta agree with you there. Who cares if it's predetermined. As long as we don't always know who is going to win, that's half the fun, and the other half is pure entertainment. Go RVD!

Boxing and horse racing are both predetermined by "high rollers", so why do we consider them sports?
At least wrestling admitted to it being predetermined a long time ago.
