I almost put this in the Non-Sports Related forum as boxing has little to do with sports these days. Watching SportsCenter this evening, the lead story was the LIVE weigh in of Mike Tyson and the totally irrelevant dude he is fighting this weekend. I know Tyson is pretty much the only marketable commodity in heavyweight boxing these days, but who really cares? Don't get me wrong; the fight is sports-newsworthy. But on a day when Gary Payton is traded for Ray Allen, it is not the LEAD story of the day.
This fight has been off and on and off and on again any number of times since it was announced. The fact that they have to pull WWE-type stunts (Tyson getting that dopey tattoo the week of the fight, Tyson not really training, Etienne saying he is not fighting) to get publicity is evidence of what a mess boxing has become. Anybody going to buy this on Pay Per View?

It's a total farce, but Mike does put on a good show. Here is telling Etienne how "big" it really is...and I don't mean the payoff!

Tyson with his new tattoo thinks he's Seven of Nine, or is it 9" x 7"?

A 49-second farce. Did anyone actually pay for this?

I wish I had seen Tonya Harding fight! Went 4 rounds, and a near split decision according to the Sunday paper today. From golden blades to golden gloves? You go girl!, you tornato-bait trailer-park white-trash knee-bashing co-conspiritessa. But you might need some quality PR management. Do you volunteer to the disadvantaged? You must have learned something with all the community service you were court ordered to perform. Your undying fan, T

Tyson Refuses to Answer Bell in Shocking Defeat QUOTE
Tyson tried to break [Kevin] McBride's arm in the final round, then tried to hit him low. When all else failed he aimed his head at McBride's forehead, butting him and opening a cut next to his left eye.
\"I was desperate,\" Tyson said. \"I wanted to win.\"
I didn't even know he was trying to come back. Wasn't his ban from boxing supposed to be for life?

Anyone who paid money to see Mike Tyson, whether in person or on television, is a fool if they expected to see something resembling actual boxing.
And ESPN's Sportscenter, by treating this "fight" like it was a noteworthy event with special updates and live coverage afterwards, hits new lows in the field of sports coverage.
Listening to him talk afterwards, however, for the first time I actually felt sorry for Mike Tyson. I certainly wasn't expecting that.

The number of people who paid for this on pay per view made it noteworthy. Once again, "boxing", not "Mike Tyson" lured buyers in and I'm sure many paid the $50.00 to see it... just like they will when the next big farce, I mean, fight comes along. How does ESPN not cover this event when millions of people made the choice to buy it? Obviously there was interest.

I'm not saying they shouldn't cover it. But they shouldn't cover it as if it were a major event. Just the fact that it was held in Washington, DC should be a clue. Not Vegas, not Madison Square Garden, not even Atlantic City. Washington, DC.
Many millions of dollars are spent on porn. Should ABC News do 3/4 of their newscast nightly on why people buy porn?

Colin (aka Mikey) sends his love.

Back to Mike Tyson... more people were actually talking about this at work today then they were porn. (j/k) Maybe it's just Phoenix and Tyson lives here in the Valley, I don't know. But it seems as though the his act this weekend is the topic of some conversation still on Monday. Me, I'd rather pay to watch MMA than boxing.

You know Tyson is desperate when he starts biting guys nipples. I love Kevin McBride's comment.
QUOTE
Tyson is crazy. He bit my nipple,\" McBride told the paper. \"I didn't realize it at first but he had his teeth around it. I just felt a strange sensation and then realized what he'd done. He could not get up high enough to bite my ears — good job he wasn't a midget, otherwise he would have bitten something else.\"
Read more. lol, "strange sensation." Me thinks Kevin enjoyed the nibbling for a sec.
