What's wrong with the Mariners?

I thought it was the right thing to let Lou Piniella go. His time was up and the M's made a great trade of Piniella to the D-Rays for Randy Winn, an All-Star (well, rules dictate that someone from the D-Rays has to go to the All-Star game every season) who should plug that huge hole in left field the M's had for all of 2002.

But, to fill their managerial vacancy, the M's have interviewed three of the worst managers in recent memory:
TERRY "FranKotite" FRANCONA!
JIM "Death to Pitching Arms" RIGGLEMAN! (Who is, by the way, cute as the proverbial button.)
and ... the ultimate ...
TONY MUSER!

A rogues gallery of managerial incompetence. What? Pat Corrales isn't available? What about bringing back Maury Wills for second go-round? Hey, maybe Chuck Tanner can bring along Curtis Strong* to supply the team with performance-enhancing "nutritional supplements".

The M's are too smart to hire someone from that lot. I hope.
_____________
* Drug dealer to much of the 1985 Pittsburgh Pirate roster, including the late Rod Scurry. The Tanner-managed team so infested with cocaine use that even its plush parrot mascot was implicated in buying drugs (usually coke) for the players. Seriously.

Please let them hire Frankotite.....please let them hire Frankotite.....please let them hire Frankotite.....

Joey Cora is flying in tommorow to interview for the position. So far all signs are pointing towards him as the likely candidate. An unnamed source has already reported that it pretty much is already a done deal.

Joey Cora will probably get the position, although he has voiced his opinion that Seattle is a "rainy back-water of America". I don't know how all this will play out with the fans.

Well, after what seemed like months of searching, the M's finally choose Bob Melvin as their new skipper of the good ship Mariner. I'm cofortable with the decision. Melvin's young and I think he will prove himself capable of managing this veteran team. Now. I would like them to sign a stud free agent pitcher (Maddux) and try their damndest to re-sign Moyer & Olerud. Oh, and look for one more power hitter.
