Did Olympic Sprint Relay Gold Medalist John Drummond get arrested yesterday in a sting operation? I thought that I caught one radio station mentioning it this morning , but have not seen anything on the wires or dailies.

Us champion arrested in marijuana bust

Olympic gold medalist Jon Drummond was arrested today over the transportation of marijuana through Los Angeles International Airport.

Drummond, a member of the United States' 400 metre relay track team in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, was booked for transporting a controlled substance, said Deputy Roberta Granek of the county Sheriff's Department.

He was held in lieu of $US20,000 ($A39,000) bail pending an arraignment on Thursday morning, Granek said.

Drug task force members were monitoring departing flights at an airport terminal before dawn today when they arrested Raynard Beckham as he tried to leave the terminal with two audio speaker boxes containing marijuana, Granek said.

Beckham was jailed in lieu of $US100,000 ($A196,500) bail, pending arraignment on Thursday.

Granek said subsequent surveillance led the task force to Drummond. A search warrant was served and he was arrested, Granek said.

Which could lead to an interesting Outsports discussion: What's your opinion on U.S. dope laws? I read an article in today's paper that said Britain has basically decriminalized simple possession. Canadian lawmakers are on the verge of doing same, albeit with reservations, sharing a border with "Just Say No" USA and all. We all know how the Dutch do it ("two, please"). And God forbid they should start dope-testing the NBA.

I'm sure that he'll say that he will be completely exonerated. It's what they all say. If they catch you with it on your person, how are you exonerated unless someone put it on you unknowingly? By the way, where did they find it? Did he have speakers too?
