I dont get to see many of the matches but the ones I have seen are incredible. The skill level is usually pretty high and some of the bodies are works of art.

Looking forward to some discussion of this sport

A friend of mine here at Osgoode Hall law school was an Ultimate Fighting Champion, Dave Beneteau. Hes a really nice guy. Straight, but extremely gay friendly.

I can recall at a younger age watching movies where there were scenes of men fist-fighting or boxing. For example "Rocky" or "Raging Bull". Have to admit, although I didn't realize it at the time, I was turned on by watching one boxer laying punches to the face jolting his opponent's face to the left and to the right and to the left and to the right, left, right, etc. You get the picture, right?

But anyway in this Ultimate Fighting Challenge, do the competitors wear gloves or just use their fists? Is there a website?
J T
In the UFC contests, the fighters wear grappling gloves which are modified boxing gloves with the fingers cut out for grappling/wrestling. In most of the No Holds Barred contests that I have attended, the competitors have worn the grappling gloves. However, some of the guys will fight barefeet so they can put on a submission hold like a triangle choke around the neck or an ankle lock.

The best NHB fighters in the following categories:

Heavyweights - Mark Kerr, Randy Couture, Mark Coleman, and Pedro Rizzo

Middleweights - Tito Ortiz, Dan Henderson, Dave Menne, Murilo Bustamante, Guy Metzger

Welterweights - Matt Hughes, Pat Miletich, Carlos Newton, Nathan Marquardt

Lightweights - Jens Pulver, BJ Penn, Sean Sherk

We have several amatuer and professional NHB contests here in the midwest. The fighters are real cut (i.e. six packs), muscular (big guns/arms), and fit (long endurance) in the ring plus they are good fighters. Most of the guys are former college wrestlers who have trained heavy in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As a wrestler, I have to say the guys are good looking stud muffins in the ring.

Here are some good NHB sites on the web:

www.sherdog.com

www.fcfighter.com

www.fightworld.com

At the Hillside Wrestling competition in PA, they do have a mat under one of the tents where you can drill/practice your submission wrestling moves or you can challenge someone to a submission wrestling match.

Hey JT! Thanks for the tip on those websites! Sherdog.com has just been dropped into my favorite file. The fact that it has everything; news updates, message boards, pictures, etc. tells me this is becoming a very in sport. At least for me it is.

Hey CanadaLaw27 .... I have seen Dave Beneteau fight .... he is pretty good although one time I saw him he got beat up bad by one my favorites, Dan Bobish. Ask Beneteau what it was like being on the receiving end of Bobish's power. The guy is a beast. tongue.gif

Check out the organization's website.

My partner & I were flipping through TV last night when some highlights of this caught our attention. It's basically like no-holds barred fighting in a cage & fighters can use boxing, greco-roman wrestling, kickboxing, martial arts. My immediate thought was, this is Running Man come to life -- the fighting is really disgusitngly brutal. Fighting continues while the fighters are on the ground -- one guy was on his back and the other fighter was straddling him on his chest while delivering a barrage of solid left and right hooks to the other guy's head.

On the other hand, it is incredibly thrilling to watch (think Mortal Combat come to life), and, best of all, the fighters are hot as hell. Here are the 2 cuties we saw fight last night: Robbie Lawler and Steve Berger. These gorgeous buff guys are basically butt-nekkid in the ring except for tight tight short shorts. And then they're all over each other, grappling and grinding all over the mat.

So I'm wondering: is it wrong to love something that's just ridiculously over the top violent? I mean, really, you have to see these guys go nuts on each other...

Yah, I've watched the matches off and on for a while. You can rent some of the best fights at your local Blockbuster.

All varieties of fighting styles are represented, but inevitably it comes down to Brazilian Jui-Jitsu. That's where one guy is on his back defending while the other straddles his hips. As homoerotic as it is, it's one of the most potent fighting styles. And the guy on the bottom is not helpless. One of the most devastating submission holds comes from the bottom position.

It's a tough sport so they have to be in amazing condition to last long. Hence the omnipresence of hotties competing. Imagine my surprise/delight when i met a gay ultimate fighter one night...

Thanks for the link- some nice beef there. Never seen it on TV. Every once in a while, I'll catch Toughman on FX- like guys you'd see in a bar fight- cohosted by druggie/role model Lawrence Taylor. Good for a laugh. Pete

I used to love UFC. Then once, in the early days, a friend and I paid for one of the PPV's. There was supposed to be a great fight between Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn. Well, Neither of them did Jack. They literally circled each other for 20 minutes or so. Even the fans there were booing. I swear I wanted my money back. So after that, no more PPV for me, though I do understand there are some DVD's that have "greatest battles" or so on there. I might have to check them out.

Did anyone catch the Georges St Pierre fight on Saturday Night? Absolutely amazing!!! Before the fight, I figured he'd take Matt Hughes in four rounds, but doing it in two was just phenominal. I was watching it at a bar in Ottawa and seriously the whole place errupted and jumped around as if some team had just won the Stanley Cup haha.

Who cares about winning and losing? Most of these guys are just plain hot, as they walk around in their skimpy, skin-tight underwear. biggrin.gif

Awesome to see a Québecer win a UFC championship.. i find it funny though that people in OTTAWA jumped up and down, but eh.

LOL

great fight, GSP was ready.. and he fought Hughes perfectly. The fake leg shot that ended it was perfect.. Hughes thought he was knocked by a punch! ohmy.gif

UFC 66 is officially in the books, and what a night it was!

Tito Ortiz gave it his all, but was no match for Chuck "The Iceman" Liddel.

Forrest Griffin was knocked out in the first round and CRIED!!!

And Canada's Jason MacDonald chalked up another victory...defeating Chris Lebin with a nice choke hold.

UFC 67 will take place in February...Georges St Pierre will not be defending his Welterweight Championship due to a knee injury suffered during training. Too bad sad.gif

Forrest Griffin wasn't the only one crying. I could swear that Tito was doing his share of sobbing himself.
