What the heck is going on these last few years? There's kids all over the place. You got Dusty Baker's little boy (who is way too young to be a bat boy) ruuning out on to the field during play. You got Shawn Dunston's little boy running around in the dugout. You had Jorge Posada's little kid running out at the All-Star game. And countless other kids all over the ballfield. Hey why don't we all just bring our kids to work everyday as well. Or do only spoiled overpaid ballplayers get all the privileges?

Deficit of attention, surplus of cute: the infantilization of the American mind.
And if you object, you are an ogre.
Grrr!

Yep...only spolied overpaid ballpayers get all the privileges.....lol.
I did find something somewhat unique watching the game last night. Both, Bonds and Loftin (I think) met their kids at home plate and gave each kid a kiss on the lips.
The picture struck me as odd as we really never see such displays, especially during baseball games.

Mitch Albom had a good line on yesterday's Sports Reporters show. He said the Giants dugout looked like an episode of "Rugrats".

I was just about to log in and make a comment about all this. I think its also odd about all these kids running all over. I love kids to death and am not teh type to see them as a burden or anything..but a 3 year old has no place on a baseball field. In addition I think the emotional toll this takes on these kids is totally unwarranted. I dont think its cute or anything to see a 3 yo crying or the other kid crying about a baseball game at such a young age. I think it is too much for a kid that age to deal with. I love the fact that these dads take such an interest in their sons, but there is also a place for it all. It just seems inappropriate in some instances. You have a kid whos 12-13-14 who wants to be a batboy ok, but these kids are way too young.

In their meetings this week, the GM's plan to establish the minimum age for batboys "
in the double digits". There's an existing rule that limits a team to two batboys in the dugout at one time. The tighter rules will be effective with the 2003 season, pending Vatican approval.
