hey folks

I was just curious if anyone here competed in the tiger balm tourny this year. It was my first competition and I came away with some medals and a grand championship for hard style kata(still not sure how I pulled that out of my &$$). Well some lady told me the results "should" be posted somewhere online. I thought it sounded far-fetched but if you guys know anything could you pass it on? :cool:

Yes, I competed. Finally, after many years come out with the Soft Style Underbelt Weapons Grands cup. Mostly due to fortune, however, I'll take it.

Kenpo guy, are you coming over for the Can-Ams June 3-4, and did you get my email re results?

Hey chuck(is it okay if I call you that, lol). Yes I got your e-mail and thank you. I didn't really think the results would be posted but it was worth asking. Congrats on your Grand cup. Mine was won the same way as yours but seeing as it was my first competition I'm not letting that steal my thunder. My kata was more than twice as long as any of my competition's so there was lots of chances for me to botch it but I squeezed through it without any glaring mistakes. You should be more proud of your win.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make the can-am's. I'm out of funds for the trip over from the island. It's more expensive then I thought it would be. I will definitely be making next year's Tiger Balm and hopefully some other tournys as well if I can prepare properly. One more question if I may. The same lady that told me about the results being posted also told me that winning meant I was "ranked". I have a feeling that once again she may be full of hot air but maybe not. Does winning at tiger balm or any of these tournaments do anything for a martial artist's name besides his own bragging rights? She said I could be invited to higher profile tournaments that I otherwise wouldn't be able to enter. Not that I would, but that I could. I don't want to sound too naive but I don't really know a better place to ask.

I apparently was wrong. The results are/will be listed at the Mantiskungfu site under tournament then results, I'm told.

Also, whoever you talked to is right as well re qualifying for other tournaments. By coming in 1st in your division, you qualify for the WOMAA (I think its World Martial Arts Association) tournament, which is in Germany this summer. If you think you're going to Germany, email Jon Funk at the web site and get a letter (they were floating around at the Tiger Balms.)

I won't be able to make the Can-Ams either, I find. Damn unexpected 6 day work weeks!
