I hope the M's sweep the yanks in the series coming up at Safeco Field. As long as Piniella has the right starting pitchers, there should be no problems. I think he should have Joel(THE TOTAL BABE)Piņeiro as a starter. Not only is he a strikeout pitcher, I wouldn't mind looking at him for 7 innings. Anyone else wanna see the yanks in last place in the AL east? And the rangers in last place in the AL west?

Keep dreaming..it will be similar to last year when the Ms had a great season, but the end result will be like last year when 57000 yankee fans were chanting "over rated" to The Ms as they lost the series to the yanks....See ya in the fall.......

As a Yankee fan, I've been a bit amused reading the breathless accounts of Mariner exploits. In April. I'm not trying to start a flame war, but the fact is it's a verrrry long season. Last year it was about ten days too long for the M's. It seems to me they should at least win a pennant before we annoint them as the Baseball Gods.

You'd think after last season, the M's fans might be a bit more humble. Does history teach us nothing! Go ahead and win 116 again. But fail to win the World Series and you're baseball's answer to the Buffalo Bills or Minnesota Vikings.

What the Yankee fans actually accomplished last year was to help us all get back to normal after the events of September 11. They made it easy to hate the Yankees again. Thanks, Yankee fans! Go Boston!!

I'm not expecting a sweep this weekend, but I think they will take 2 of 3 from the Schmankees.

I'm by no means a major Yankee fan, but c'mon! Hate the yanks all you want but these stats mean absoulutely nothing until the M's do it in the post season when it counts. My favorite team, the Minnesota Twins, have won two World Series in the last 15 years. But I don't know, nor care, who had the best record those seasons. For sake of reference, look at last season.

Bwahahahahahaha
Part of the fun of Baseball is keeping track of records and stats, and seeing records being broke the way the M's are is part of the fun, why do people have to be so bitter about that. If the World Series is the only thing that counts why doesnt everyone just stop watching baseball now and wait till October, because nothing else matters.
I guarantee you that if the Skanks were doing what the M's are that is all we ever be hearing about on the national media. And Skankee fans would be even more obnoxious than they already are. So why dont all the Skankee fans just quit being so jelous.
I should also point out that none of the M's fans have refered to last season's 116 wins and great season. It is only Skankee fans that keep bringing it up so it must count for something to them. It must really bug them for some reason, I wonder why? hmmmm maybe because the skanks dont have the record for AL wins anymore. Bwahahahahahaha

It dont matter what record the M's have
BOTTOM LINE, THE YANKS SPANK THERE ASS IN THE PLAYOFFS
With there 116 wins, and it went down the tubes!!!!!
So the M's can have a decent record, but if they can't beat the Yankees (and they wont) they aren't winning anything
THE YANKEES WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THEN THE M'S
and thats FACT
So I'll be looking forward to this Series, and seeing the M's crumble once again to the Might Yankees!!!
and how funny is that in 1998 the Yankees broke all records in Wins and went on to Win the World Series
and last season the M's with there 116 wins couldn't GET THE JOB DONE!!! lol
GO YANKEES

As a Yankee hater, I will admit it ... they've played extraordinarily well in October in recent years. But to beat a team in a playoff series when they've won 20 or so more games than you have in the regular season... luck HAS to enter into it. Anyone can win a short (ie, 7-game) series.
And I hope the Yankees have Phoenix-in-November style luck long before the World Series this (post-)season.

I think it's impressive that the Mariners have gotten off to a start similar to last year. It would have been easy for them to slough off at the start of the regular season but they show no signs of it.
Which doesn't mean they'll get to the World Series this year...

gp43, I respect your loyalty to your team. God knows I love my Sox and will defend them to the death. But come on ... as much as the Mariners' faithful laud the 116 wins (as well they should), would you rather win 95 games and get to the World Series, or 116 games with no shot? If you asked every man on the Mariners roster, I'm sure it would be unanimous. Let's not kid ourselves about which team had the better year in 2001.
Sorry I have to disagree, the M's were a much better team than the nyy last year. The problem that we had was what every team out there has had at one time or another, we were in a bad slump at the worst possible time to have it. Another reason is that Lou Piniella gives too many chances to a couple of our struggling starters when we have enormous talent in our bullpen who would make excellent starters. Also the D-backs were the best team of 2001, not the M's, the yanks, or anyone else.

BoSoxRudy says:
[quote]as much as the Mariners' faithful laud the 116 wins
Au contraire, mon frere. It ain't the Mariners' faithful here that keep bringin up the 116 wins. Read the posting above again and you'll see that it's the Yankers fans that keep bringing it up. They must just know deep in their Yanker hearts (if they have hearts) that their team was not the best team last year.
To paraphrase Shakespeare: "Methinks the ladies doth protest too much."
(As mentioned previously, if all that counts is the World Series, why not just turn off the TV and cancel the sports page until November? And don't get me started on the Yanker payroll.)

Hi, Michael - I think the point others are making is that it is awfully early in the season for such unbecoming gloating, as well as being a bit less than adult. Let's establish the following:
1. The M's won the most regular season games in MLB last year.
2. The Yankees won the ALCS over the Mariners in five games.
3. The Diamondbacks won the World Series over the Yankees in seven games.
Given that none of the above will be known about the current season for another five months, it's kind of silly to talk about it now.

I don't know how we can expect the end of the season last year to be indicative of how the season was going before September 11. During those few months after I, as well as millions of other americans(ballplayers included), were in a fog, mourning the loss in our country. I myself am finally starting to feel somewhat normal(whatever that is) and am excited to see the M's doing it again. Going to the ballpark is fun again and not like going to another wake(the pain and emotion welling up in the pit of my stomach everytime I heard the national anthem, God Bless America, yes there is crying in baseball!). Lets hope we can see a normal, uninterrupted season and see if the M's can really pull it off in the playoffs(and world series!!!) after what looks to be a great regular season. Then, if the M's blow it, you can say we choked, but hopefully it won't come to that!!!

Hey, Munson Man,
I suppose it would be less than "adult" of me, and perhaps a little "silly" to point out that the Yankee fans above started the gloating by bringing up the whole issue of last season? See the second posting - by a NY fan. Are we Mariners fans not supposed to rise to defend the honor of our team?

Hey M's Fans, with all this talk about what happen last year in the Playoffs
Remember when Sweet Lou, mention how the M's would return to Seattle for Game 6? well I want to know what was the reaction in Seattle when Lou had to BIT HIS WORDS!!! lolololol
The M's and Yanks, without a doubt have a heated feud that started in 95', so they always have enjoyable Series even if this Series means NOTHING!!
I know the M's fans without a doubt want to see PAYBACK this weekend because of my team taking the M's out of the PLAYOFFS 2yrs in a row!!!.
So even if the Season, is still new I have a pretty good feeling that the M's/Yanks will face each other in the Playoffs again AND I KNOW THATS A BOLD STATEMENT, but I think it will happen again.
So LET'S PLAY BALL

Don't worry Tom, The Yankees won't be needing the Wild Card once this Season is over!!!!
Boston's 2 little game lead will fade fast, and it'll be Boston and Oakland battling it out for the Wild Card and of course the A's will win because Boston will always have that sort of bad luck! hehe

Yes, it's early early early, and if the Yanks are in second place come July, they'll surely trade for a slugging outfielder from their rich-get-richer perch of privilege... but a Yankeeless postseason? Can we at least *dream* of it? Go Bosox, Chisox, Twins, A's...
