I am looking to buy a bicycle mainly as an alternative to walking or riding the bus. I really like this one from Jeep and it fits within the price range I am looking at ($250-$350). For those who are experienced urban bicyclists, I'd appreciate your advice on this.

I had trouble linking the page, so, here is the text that goes along with the bike:

This really has to be a set up????

I'd suggest speaking the people in MN, they seem to hit the "nail on the head" when it comes to biking within all weather conditions.

Perhaps CNN has a nice article headline to help?

Go to an "official" bike shop and buy an "official" bike, not something made by Jeep (or made by someone else with their name slapped on it). Or buy a car from Detroit and support the U.S. auto industry - I've heard they're losing jobs at a terrible rate because of you Texans.

Oh but wait, we're "turning the corner" on lost jobs.

"If Huffy made an airplane, would you fly in it?"

Seriously, speaking as someone who did not own a car for 25+ years,* including the year I lived in LA, where I did just fine getting around with my bike and on my feet, I'd suggest going to a couple of bike shops in your area and looking at a good used hybrid or mt. bike, or even a road bike if you're not going to be too rough on it. You'll get more for your money and for your purposes as a commuter, and won't feel as bad the first time it gets smashed up a bit. No need for any tri-type setup either; you'll only get it out of whack with your daily commute.

Officially or Unofficially? Summer or Winter?

What was the stance on when Summer and winter biking started?

After reading most of your posts the past several years, I think I have a great feel for the type of rider you are. Make sure that you purchase a bike that is tailored specifically for you, Bobby - one without a horizontal crossbar. tongue.gif

??? ???

Officially, from the late '80s into the '90s, but we never set limits other than the seasons' own.
