I fear the boy doesn't know how to deal with a .500 record and a 4.73 ERA (much less losing to the Brewers!): "You can't win the game in one inning," Maddux said. "But you can lose a game in one inning." Huh?

As Maddux goes so do the Braves. I fear the team itself is not used to being below .500.

Pretty Zen of Greggie. It's like, "If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, did you really do "the Chop?"
Or maybe it's "the sound of one fan clapping" in Atlanta?

Hey guys, be nice!
I think he means, "you can't win a game in one inning (of good pitching), but you can lose a game in one inning (of bad pitching)."
For example, striking out the side won't ensure a win, but giving up 10 runs in the 5th will almost certainly ensure a defeat.

that's what I thought when I read the quote, GoMonica. It made sense to me, and didn't seem weird, "Zen-ish", or anything.
Was the Red Sox game last night won because of a single tiny muscle twitch in Damon's left arm in the first inning, or when Hargrove decided to go with Douglass (and God knows what imbibed chemicals led to either of those) everything else unavoidably following through minor coercions, encouragements, bits of despair?
Or was it, many years back, when a secretary in Schlumberger jammed the copier thus preventing a favorable report from timely reaching middle management desk, provoking the CEO into making an emergency phone call to Washington DC which resulted in the scolding of the Dominican dictator who then tightened the purse strings and caused more blackouts than usual, resulting in the births of Pedro, Manny, and José?
A game can be won or lost in an inning, an instant, or even during the Big Bang, Greg. And the Braves era is nearing its end, I hope.
