The Scott tournamant of Hearts is already under way.
Colleen Jones (her again!) is 2-0. Defending champ Jennifer Jones is 1-0. New Brunswick is also 2-0.
TSN's curling page is at:

After last year's TV debacle on CBC, we are back to the traditional coverage: week games on TSN and weekend on CBC.

I'm surprised to see Manitoba with 4 losses already and Saskatchewan with 5! They are usually strong provinces.
Here is the top half of the standings - those with the best chance of making the semi-finals.
Alberta (Cathy King) 5-2
Nova Scotia (Colleen Jones) 5-2
Team Canada (Jennifer Jones) 4-2
British Columbia (Kelly Scott)4-2
Quebec (Eve Bélisle) 4-2
New Brunswick (Andrea Kelly) 4-2

It's not surprising as Tracy Streifel was a surprise to make it out of Saskatchewan. Alberta, BC, Canada and Nova Scotia...it'll come down to those four for sure

Saskatchewan should do better at the Brier. Being in Regina they'll have local support.
At the Tournament of Hearts, Kelly Scott (British Columbia) earned a place in Sunday's final by winning the 1st place vs 2nd place match over Colleen Jones from Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia will play Saturday the winner of the 3rd place vs 4th place match for the second spot in the final. 3rd is Team Canada (Jennifer Jones). 4th is Quebec who had to play a tiebreaker game against Newfoundland for 4th place.

Kelly Scott of BC is the Canadian champ. She beat defending champ Jennifer Jones in the final. I was thorn because I like both teams, but Scott was in the lead for most of the game and it would have be heartbreaking if Jones had come back at the end. Scott was runner up in the Olympic trials so at least she goes to the Worlds.
It makes it redundant: Scott wins the Scott tournament of hearts!
Meanwhile in the US they are having their Worlds trials.

Some Curling USA results at the Worlds trial.
The woman skip representing the country to the Worlds in Grande Prairie Alberta starting next weekend is Debbie McCormick.
Pete Fenson won the spot on the men's side. The men Worlds are in Lowell Mass. at the start of April.
In Canada, the Brier is under way. In the top teams I like Dacey and Stoughton. Could go for Sask if they do well (they said when hosting the Sask team has not been performing well historically)

This afternoon Stoughton (Manitoba) beat Martin (Alberta); the two teams were undefeated until then.
It looks like these two teams and Glenn Howard of Ontario will be the top three, with a battle behind to get the fourth playoff spot.

Pat Simmons is struggling hardcore at the Brier. Granted, he was given a tough draw where four of his first five matches were against former Brier champions. None the less, he has yet to complete a game which is inexcusable.
Kevin Martin is playing some great curling and it was too bad he lost to Jeff Stoughton today. I still feel Alberta will be in the final, but they'll need Carter Rycroft to play a little bit better for sure.

Pat Simmons defeated Jeff Stoughton tonight...nice to see the goose egg get shattered!

I was happy that Stoughton beat Martin. He was one of my two picks. After that win it went downhill - 2 losses! (sask last night and Quebec this morning)
Standings of teams with no more than 2 losses:
Ontario 6-0
Alberta 4-1
Manitoba 4-2
Quebec 4-2
PEI 3-2
There is Alberta (Martin) vs Ontario (Howard) game this afternnon. With a win Howard can pretty much assure himself of first place.

That Alberta v Ontario game was pretty intense to say the least. Some questionable shots and decisions but none the less, Kevin Martin deserved that win!
After losing their first four games, Pat Simmons of the Davidson Curling Club has stormed back with three straight wins. Here's hoping he can continue to gain momentum.

Simmons is on a winning streak: 5 in a row! He's in the fight for a playoff spot.
Maybe I jinxed Stoughton. After winniong 4 and beating Martin, he lost 4 in row before winning his fifth. Like Sask, NS, BC, a bunch of teams at 4 losses.
Looking at the draws...
Problem for Stoughton is his last game is against Ontario. Sask plays BC for their last game. NS has to play Alberta. All kinds of possibilities for the playoffs spots.
A bit surprised looking at the results to see Martin lose to Quebec.

This is an example of violence in curling...
QUOTE
REGINA (CP) - Manitoba skip Jeff Stoughton was fined $1,000 by the Canadian Curling Association for slamming his broom in anger on the ice during a game at the Canadian men's curling championship Wednesday.
Stoughton was upset after New Brunswick scored four in the fourth end of a morning game. \"I was obviously a little pissed off so I kicked a couple of rocks in the corner, went down to the other end and banged my broom on the ice,\" Stoughton said following the game.
He was admonished by an official.
\"He came out, 'Don't do it again' so I did it right in front of him just to piss him off,\" Stoughton said with a laugh.
\"He said 'There's a lot of people here watching, maybe you shouldn't do that' and I said 'They love it. I don't think they're complaining.'
\"If you can't let off some steam, I don't know what you're supposed to do. It wasn't like I was throwing things in the crowd or was trying to hit people.\"
The CCA said in a release that \"any further display of unsportsmanlike conduct will result in further fines and suspension.\"

I'm shocked that Martin of Alberta didn't reach the final. It will be Ontario and Quebec.
The World Juniors championships were held in South Korea.
On the men's side, Canada defeats Sweden to win the gold. Scotland defeats China to earn the bronze.
On the women's side, Russia earns the gold by winning the final over Canada. Denmark wins the bronze medal game over Switzerland.

The Brier was won by... Quebec!? Only the second time; last time was near 30 years ago.
The Women's world championship is half-way through the round robin.
Sweden, skipped by gold medalist Anette Norberg is on top of the standings with a record of 5-0. Debbie McCormick is second at 5-1 (loss to Sweden). There are a few teams with 2 losses, including Canada's Kelly Scott. She lost to Sweden and China.

Jean-Michel Menard played very well while Glenn Howard choked...though as he said, it's tough to beat the same team three times!
Menard becomes the first Quebec team to win the Brier since 1977, and the first all francophone team to win the Brier ever!

It's great news for my curling club here in Ottawa! I curl in a cash league in which both Jean-Michel Menard and Craig Savill skip a team, and it's awesome having a national champion (and a runner-up) amongst us! BTW, Jenn Hanna also curls in this league. (My team's record against Savill is 1-1, and Hanna is 1-1, but we've not had the fortune to curl against Menard.)
Only two more weeks in the curling season... Next year, if any Outsporters ever make it to Ottawa, I'd be happy to rent a sheet of ice and curl a game with you!

Bad final for Howard, he gave up a steal of three early in early end.
Ed13 throws rocks with champions!
It's time for the playoffs at the women's worlds championships.
First and second place are Sweden and USA with 10-1 records. Sweden beat USA in round robin. The only Sweden loss was to Scotland, so she has defeated all three other teams in the playoffs.
Third place is Germany at 8-3. Fourth place is Canada at 7-4. Canada lost to Sweden and USA but beat Germany 8-3 when they played. Canada could advance to the semi-final but it will be tougher against the loser of the Sweden-USA game.

Anette Norberg and her team from Sweden won the world championship. It was a high scoring game, Sweden winning 10-9 over the USA.
I thought the advantage shifted to the US side when USA scored 4 in the 4th end. They were up by two. But Sweden came back in the next end scoring 3 and then stealing 1. It came down to the last rock thrown by Norberg. She had to make a draw and for a moment it looked like it could be too far - but the rock stopped just in time and she scored the winning point.
Norberg is the world dominant women's curling team, winning consecutive world titles, plus the Olympic gold and European championship this year.
Canada got third place.

The world men's championship just got under way. Canada won its first game against Sweden. The USA plays Ireland. Pure luck of the draw that USA faces Ireland in Lowell Mass. near Boston? They should have scheduled this for St. Patrick's Day. wink
The only televided broadcast I have found here is for next weekend: the semi-final and final. Unless you have
CurlTV.comOtherwise we have to follow the tournament on the web.
Men's Championship 2006They have live score and have day's end audio wrap up. Live audio streaming wasn't working for me.
On the webpage they give an email address if you want to send fan mail to your favourite team. I remember someone on here who wanted to email Team Fenson during the Olympics. Here is another chance.

Right now the teams in better position to advance are:
USA with a record of 5-1
Scotland and Canada at 5-2
Nothing is sure though. There are a great number of teams with 3 wins, so almost every team is still in it.
Canada had a bad Sunday with two losses. One was to Scotland and the other was to Australia!? The last Canada game of the round robin will be against the host country, USA.
Zeno

In the last draw of round robin, Canada wins 9-6 over USA. Canada with a record of 8-3 secures second place and will play Scotland (record of 9-2) in the first place vs second place game. The winner goes to the final. The loser will face the winner of the 3rd vs 4th game (Norway and USA both 7-4) in Saturday's semi-final.

Colleen Jones and her rink have officially split up. The other three are joining another team in a less competitive form....Colleen Jones is now looking for another competitive team.

Maybe Jones will want to look outside Nova Scotia to join a team.
Curling can be a dangerous sport. I know a man in his 60s, he went to try curling. He fell and got a leg fracture near the hip. He's been in hospital 2 weeks now.
Scotland won the world men's championship defeating Canada. It's like the result of best 2 out of 3 since Scotland won against Canada in round robin but loss in the 1st vs 2nd place game.
