Hi - I am researching the status of transgendered folks in professional sport and am looking for info. Does anyone know the history around transgendered people in professional sport, or just how professional a competitive transgendered athlete is allowed to be under the various sporting governances policies? I know that the IOC tests chromosomes, thus an athlete cannot be transgendered. However, the UCI (International Cycling Union) allows transgendered folks to compete in World Cup events. Can anyone steer me towards some sources?? Thanks!!

Dr. Renee Richards, tennis. In the late 70's I believe Dr. Richards who had competed as a man attempted to compete on the womens circut after her sex change (is the the pc term these days, I don't want to offend anyone).

Rennee Richards and Richard Raskin is the only player to compete in both the Men's and Women's Singles at the US OPEN, I believe 1st Round loses each time! I think the controversy started in 1975, and made the cover page of TENNIS magazine!
