Any guys here play rugby? I'm 5ft 11, 12st and 24 yrs old and looking to get into the game for the first time.

Also I wouldn't mind taking up gymnastics.

Has anyone taken up either of these at an older age? How was it?

Simon, At 24, you're hardly "old," even in the age-conscious gay subculture! I first played rugby when I was in law school, at age 28, 6'1" and (then) 180 lbs. I had never played football before, let alone rugby, and everyone knew "where I was coming from," although I didn't go around wearing it - or my heart - on my sleeve. I got in pretty good shape as a result and also had some pretty good times. Alas, I never did conquer my no-handedness, but on those few occasions when I did manage to hold on to the ball, I ran with it and even scored a few tries. Good luck to you and don't let other peoples' conceptions of "old age" hold you back! Oh yeah, gymnastics? You might be a little big for that, but give it a go!

Simon, don't worry about it. Just get out there and show them what you're made of!

If I had been less self-concious back in the day, I'd have a different story to tell....

btw, how are my irish brethren in belfast?
