I decided to start this thread since, um, he's NOT a free agent.

Wouldn't ALEX RODRIGUEZ be able to tear up his current contract and start at a new, lower number ...?
And why would he do such a foolish thing? Why would any of us? There is no guarantee he can now pick a "winning" team to go to; by 2005, Texas could be more of a contender than the Yankees. Who knows?

The Rangers need to decide before they "listen" to offers what kind of identity they'd have without him: a team that lacks A-Rod, and still stinks?

Those who think Texas suffers because of A-Rod's $22 million salary should consider that Texas spent more than $22 million on Chan Ho Park, Rusty Greer and Jay Powell this year. Which was the better bargain? I actually think that on the whole, the superstars are worth the cash. It's possible to win a lot of games with a couple of great players and a lot of filler--look at the San Francisco Giants. While some teams have a history of very shrewd acquisitions, I actually think more teams get burned on the mid-level ($5-10 million) free agents than on the superstars.

Yikes. English is my first language.....what I meant is restructure, perhaps less years for the same amount of money per year or put more of it on the back-end etc., you know, Creative Contracts 101.

He'd be welcome in Anaheim, but not for the young pitching talent the Angels are high on.

*Snicker* Chan Ho Park *snicker* One of Dan Evans better deals for the Dodgers, getting rid of him.
