Lost in the disgrace of Justine QUITTING the final yesterday is the fact that Amelie Mauresmo is not a part of tennis history. She is a grand slam champion and while some may continue to think that she never really had to prove herself in closing out the match...the fact remains that she won and is a grand slam champion. I really think that this could give her the confidence to win more slams...and this year. I always said her first slam would not come at the French Open, but her superb play and aggressive style and boost in confidence could really allow her to relax at the French Open and she has gotten so close at Wimbledon. She's got a legitimate shot of winning both those titles. Whenever I refer to Justine from now on I will call her Justine(Ret.)

I agree, yesterday there was a different air about Amelie, she appeared calm , confident and although it is hypothetical I felt but she would/could have won the match if it was played out to its conclusion.

I have always thought that Mauresmo best chance was at Wimbledon, not Roland Garros, where her all court game is at its best. Her sliced backhand, good volleys and lateral movement at the net are best suited. She has, after all, made 3 semis there. This might be Amelie's year.

Two-hander
It might indeed. There is now no doubt that Amelie is fitter than any of the other top players, which counts for a hell of a lot these dyas. Just as important, I think she's turned a corner in terms of the doubts and hesitation that were holding her back.

I would love to see her at #1 for a while, forcing people like the Williams' and Sharapova to step it up.

Mauresmo absolutely has a game for every surface, but I still think Paris is too much pressure for her. I hope I'm wrong!! I like her chances alot at Wimbledon.

And I hope, more for her sake than anyone else's, that she does win a second Slam soon. She has nothing to prove, but it would be nice to see her close out these big matches and put the questions around her nerve to rest once and for all.
