May as well start the Tigers thread with a serious mishap: DH
Dmitri Young broke his leg on the AstroTurf at the Toronto SkyDome this evening. Bizarro...
The Tigers went on to take the Blue Jays 7-3, after a 7-0 win yesterday. The battle has begun!

They're 2-0 -- they're rising from the ashes! wink

The Tigers are now 3-0. Last year it took them 22 games and the whole month of April to win 3 times. WTF?!? Is Toronto that bad?

No, it's just a 3-game series. Detroit will finish behind the Jays (Delgado and Hinske are not going to hit .100 all year), but the Tigers might lose less than 100, which would be a huge leap.

Man, the Tigers pummelled the Twins bullpen (which must be exhausted). Ten runs in the final last innings! They've scored 30 runs in their first four games!
The. Tigers. Are. 4. And. 0. Trammell's doing a great job.

A couple days ago, I heard an interview with Vince Furnier. I knew that he was an avid golfer (something I always thought seemed out of step with his wild rock star persona), but was not aware that he was also a huge baseball fan. He's from Detroit, so naturally he cheers for the Tigers in the American League and is thrilled with their performance thus far.
Vince now lives in Arizona, and befitting his passion for using snakes in his concerts, his favourite NL team is the Diamondbacks. Apparently he also owns a restaurant in Phoenix, "where jocks and rock meet", and is appropriately named ALICE COOPERSTOWN. So for those who didn't recognize the name Vince Furnier at first, now you know!

Where were the fans at Comerica tonight? They've got a good team playing the Angels (another good team) on ESPN, and they're not selling tickets? What was with all the empty seats in the lower level? And why the unenthusiastic applause after they plated 5 in the third? Are the local media not covering this team enough?

You lose 120 games in a season, it's gonna take some time for the fans to come back. If they keep playing consistently, they'll come back, but the Tigers moved into their new park and gouged their fans with higher ticket prices. Tiger fans have been burned -- and they're not quite as trusting as they used to be.

Hi.
I'll be seeing a game at Comerica soon as a part of my summer baseball drive around parts of the country.
Are there any decent inexpensive hotels in the area that are in OK neighborhoods? I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts.
Thanks
Josh

The Tigers set an MLB record last night, taking only 89 games this year to reach 43 wins (their win total from last year), making them the team who needed the fewest amount of games to teach their win total from the previous year.
Not only was it a win over the Yankees, Mike Maroth (the 20-game LOSER), only 6-7 this year, threw a 1-hitter. So the Tigers are only 4.5 games out. As long as the Twins and White Sox stay in the much, the more likely the Indians and Tigers could jump up and steal this thing.

These are downtown, by and large you'll be okay. I recommend the Athenium in Greektown, and the Marriott Renaissance Center if you want to go allout. Since you said "inexpensive" I recommend the Comfort Inn Downtown, or the Howard Johnson if you want to drive about 10 mins to the 'burbs.
Comerica Park is very nice with lots of great food, but it's no Tiger Stadium. Spend the extra $$$ and get lower deck seating (the $8 Fan Stands give you a lower deck bleacher seat AND a dog & pop). The upper level sightlines are good but you are HIGH up there.
