This story appeared in today's Daily Southtown.

After having this article left on his desk this morning, Sox GM Kenny Williams exploded in television interviews in response to Thomas's comments.

Some comments from Williams:

""He's an idiot. He's selfish. That's why we don't miss him."

"We protected this guy's ass for 16 years and stuck by him, and this is how he repays us?"

"He wasn't even scheduled to speak at the parade rally, but we gave him the trophy and let him address his fans, the White Sox fans who for 16 years supported him during his ups and downs. We did this out of respect for him.

"Out of respect, we gave him the first pitch in the playoffs."

"Jerry has done everything over the course of 16 years to protect that man, to make accommodations for him, concessions for him. He loaned him money, at times, when he needed money."

"He's really an ass."

"We don't miss him, by the way," Williams said. "If you go out there and ask any one of my players or staff members, we don't miss him.

"We don't miss his attitude. We don't miss the whining. We don't miss it. Good riddance. See you later."

Williams said he planned to express his feelings in person to Thomas when the opportunity presented itself, perhaps this spring.

"I'm a general manager and I'm supposed to be above these things. But again, when is enough enough?" he said.

"He brought us to this point. So, OK, you want to play this game? You've got it. You got it. He's the Oakland A's problem right now. ... He better stay out of our business. He better stay out of White Sox business."

This was just a sample of what Kenny had to say about The Big Hurt.

And you thought the Shani Davis/Chad Hedrick feud was exciting. tongue.gif

Frank Thomas is an idiot. Get over your bad self. He hardly played the past two seasons, because of injury, and is acting all put out, because the Sox chose to go in another direction. And now he's STILL hurt and currently unable to play for Oakland....They can have him!
MIB
On this morning's sports talk radio programs, both stations' hosts and their guests all said something that's probably correct: Thomas still can't get over the fact that the White Sox won the World Series without him!

Aw, ain't that just too damn bad.

And people told me I was stupid for dissing Frank way back in the '90's. He was a man-child then; he's a man-child now.

Surely that wasn't the only reason people told you that. tongue.gif

Anyway, I agree. I always thought Thomas was an ass. Selfish in the Albert Belle mode.

Apparently Ozzie Guillen's outspokenness is rubbing off on Williams.
MIB
Funny thing is, regarding this incident, Ozzie told reporters, "No comment." Probably a wise decision.

ESPN radio has been trashing Williams all day for his "unprofessional comments."
MIB
No! You mean to tell me the Eastern Seaboard Propaganda Network is criticizing an official of the Chicago White Sox?

Say it ain't so! rolleyes.gif

The ESPN hypocrisy on Williams' comments has been astounding--even for them. All their talking heads have criticized Williams (while acknowledging that Frank Thomas is known to be difficult) while admitting that, from a sportstalk standpoint, Williams' remarks have been a godsend. So it becomes a weird combination of "How dare he?," coupled with "Thank you!"

I'm just surprised you didn't have to be an ESPN Insider to read all their comments. rolleyes.gif
