I like Passos. He such a passionate guy, a real character.

I thought Guga's recent subpar play was due to the hip surgeries but perhaps he thinks a new coach is what's needed.

Unfortunately he has not disavowed them that I am aware of. I hope I'm wrong.

THis morning a very good bud of mine who lives in S.F. said that his tennis buds down there seem to think that Vince Spadea is gay. He reminds me very much of Johnny Depp.

I like Vince Spadea's game and I have always thought that he was cute. He also doesn't have a problem showing his personality, unlike many other players.

We don't want Spadea. What a dick. I went to the French Open in 2002 and he was so insane and freakish. He cussed out his opponent for no reason at the top of his lungs and told him that he'd be working at a little tennis club as a pro in a year because he had no talent. Everyone in the stands on that little side court was completely horrified. The umpire made him shut up, but by then my opinion of him was zero.

Forgot to respond to this: as far as the JCF/Sharapova rumor comes from the fact that she went to practice at his academy in Spain before the French and they were apparently seen together in restaurants. She was asked about it and declined to comment beyond that they are friends.

I too have always thought that Courier could be gay...interesting that quite a few others feel the same way....kinda makes ya wonder...hhmmmm.

I don't think the Kitzbuehel tournament is being televised here in the US, so most of us will probably not have the opportunity to check out Marach.

But thank you for the information. I'll remember Marach's name for future tournaments that may be televised in the US.

I don't think Courier is gay personally. I think he's just comfortable enough with himself that he doesn't worry about how people perceive him. I think if he was gay, he would have come out once he retired.

I doubt there are as many as 10 gay players in the top 100, simply because I think a closeted gay man would not be drawn to such a high profile career as professional tennis player. I doubt many closeted gay men would choose to live their life under a microscope in the world of professional sports. I personally don't necessarily believe the 10% number either... I think closer to 5% of the population is gay. Either way, there are maybe a couple in the top 100, but I'm doubtful about more than that.

Feliciano Lopez is self-described as metrosexual on a feature being run on the Tennis Channel. Also admits he is a clothes horse. Food for the imagination. Has anyone else noticed Youzhny's assets? Arguably the best looking backside on the circuit. Don't mind the rough hewn features either.

Maybe this is not directly related to this thread, but maybe it's an interesting aside:

A straight guy sums up his review of some the hottest (game-wise I assume wink ) tennis players with a section on each called "I'm not gay but if I was." I actually find I agree with a lot of his reasoning. But to "forget" what Tommy Haas looks like only proves he must be straight. Then again, compared to the others....

sportinlife, that was a funny link, and especially because the writer thinks he has his information correct, but he misses on a few points: Federer does cry and has recently cried again after winning Wimbledon. Hewitt is no longer engaged to Clijsters. And I never thought Nadal was lanky. but fun to read.

This is my first time posting here on Outsports. Its funny because this topic has come up several times on the ESPN message boards where I frequently post. The usual suspects that come up are Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moya, Feliciano Lopez, Jan Michael Gambill, James Blake, Mardy Fish, Roger Federer, and Jim Courier.

Its pretty well known that Mardy Fish and James Blake practically live together in Florida and their relationship has been talked about for years. I don't care if James is dating some blonde chic right now. A friend of mine was at the Hall of Fame Championships and said he had a conversation with Jim Courier who wasn't denying his sexuality. Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moya, Jan Michael?? C'mon. I don't care if Moya is dating Penetta. Go to:

Now that picture doesn't necessarily mean they are gay, but it doesn't help. After all...Spanish men are affectionate with each other. But make of it what you want.

Also..Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu. Cliff Drysdale slipped the tongue during the Wimbledon quarters by saying "I'm shocked that Gonzalez and Massu share an apartment in Chile" If you look at their schedules they play the same events and are always together.

I hear the occasional Andy Roddick rumbling but that may just be wishful thinking. With that rump roast of his I sure wish he was familia. I was at the Legg Mason to see the Roddick/Blake final and boy was that an ass fest.

I also recently learned from a tennis insider that Roger Federer likes ze boys too and that Mirka is his "Grace" ala Will and Grace. I'm sure there are others but those are the ones I constantly hear about. Hopefully one will come out of the closet eventually and maybe lead the way for others.

I often wonder about the ESPN commentator Cliff Drysdale. It's not uncommon for him to make compliments on the looks of some of the male players on the tour. His cohost Pat McEnroe usually says nothing or moves on to another topic.

correction to above note about Ginepri's living arrangement. according to the commentators last night, Ginepri is living with Bobby Reynolds, with whom is is also a frequent practice partner. Reynolds got a lot of exposure yesterday, playing Nadal. Ginepri/Reynolds definitely a hot pair.

Spent a few hours with Ginepri during the Legg Mason, he definitely does not seem to be even a little bit gay-friendly. Reynolds is HOT. Seriously, I hope he starts winning more matches. He's still in the doubles at least.
Kiefer strikes me as one of the least gay-friendly European players that I have seen. Wishful thinking because his lower body is a thing of beauty, but he's gotta be str8. And has been starting to act like a bit of an ass, so no great loss there. Vince Spadea is DEFINITELY not a nice guy. He's actually a big goof. Not gay, thankfully. I won't even get into his amateur rapping. HIDEOUS. Seriously. I was sorta hoping Clement would be a little gay or gay friendly. Too quiet for me to tell really. JMG, however, he and I both checked out a couple of hotties, so we did not discuss it, but I am sure that we both noticed each other checking out the scenery.

I don't know., but now Gaudenzi is commenting the US Open for Eurosport Italy. Yesterday during the Blake-Rusesdki match, the other commentator said that Blake was included in the People's sexiest men list. Gaudenzi immediatly said that Blake is not bad looking, but there're certainly 50 men sexier than him.

Tommy Robredo has a pack of very attractive pretty boy amigos taking pictures of him and cheering him on out at court six on Monday night. Not a senorita in the bunch, except for Gisela Dulko, who was talking with one of Tommy's friends and then left pretty quickly.

Speaking of ... Dulko is very slight for a professional player these days and much prettier in person than on television. Then again, she's Argentine, so that's no surprise.

But, yeah, Tommy's got a posse of pretty boys. The one Dulko was talking to was absolutely stunning.

very interesting... i never listen to the italian commentary normally (undisciplined lot, these italians - they just talk over all the rallies and only shut up when the point's over :-)), but now that you say gaudenzi is part of the italian eurosport team i suppose i can do without jo dury's insightful comments...

He usually talks a lot about Muster. He never misses an opportunity to name him,especially when he started to be part of the Eurosport team. now it seems that he could survive a match without naming him.

A friend of mine asked me today if Federer's gf is legit. He think Fed might switch hit. He may be hoping. I don't know. Federer rocks in my books and is not bad-looking so, hooray if he is, but I doubt it. Thoughts?
