In the World Team Championships, the United States was swept by France 3-0. Nicolas Escude beat Pete Sampras 7-6(3), 2-6, 7-6(2), while teammate Arnaud Clement beat Andy Roddick 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Clement and Escude teamed to beat James Blake and Jared Palmer 6-1, 6-1 to complete the sweep.
