Yeh, I was shocked. He beat Agassi on clay. It's not the European terre battue, but it IS clay, damn it, and Pete had beaten Andre only once on clay before yesterday's semifinal match...!
Sampras faces Roddick in the final. If Andy can keep his excitement in check, he could out-rally Pete. I actually think Sampras might have the better game off the ground, but Roddick has more power, moves better, and can hit bigger shots.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool final in Houston. Our cable system actullay carries the channel broadcasting the final, so we'll watch some of it, at least.
We always giggle a bit in the vitamin ads where the lady asks, "Hey you, how about it, one more?" to play tennis with Sampras. After Sampras responds, "Just one?" we imagine her responding, "On clay? Sure!"
Good for him to get to the final. I hope he wins, to break that long streak the commentators always bring up. Roddick won last year; give Pete the trophy!

wow, Sampras's career has taken a few crazy turns lately. He loses to Corretja on grass, but beats Agassi on clay??? Maybe it's a Texas thing.

But what's with that beard on Sampras?

Slightly big upset. I told you guys Sampras is not washed up yet, if he puts his heart into it, he is still capable of beating anyone, anytime.

Well, I thought Sampras over Agassi was pretty shocking. Sampras' only clay victory over Agassi in their careers came in Monte Carlo '98 when I don't think Agassi was in the top 20. It's got to be at least five years since Sampras beat a top 10 player on clay--it might be eight. Maybe Higuera's coaching is really paying off. It's a good win for Roddick, in any case.
I must say I didn't envision Gaudio winning in Barcelona.
According to the ATP website, the draws for Munich and Mallorca (mostly of interest because of Kuerten's entry) are available, but I can't seem to get them.

I would be incredibly remiss if I did not congratulate Pete for getting so far in the tournament and, much more importantly, ANDY FOR WINNING AGAIN. That is a very solid win for him over a tough field, in spite of the fact that the Europeans were over in Europe for the most part. Let's see what happens over the next few weeks going into the French. This win has to be a confidence booster for him. Question is can he stay healthy...?
