In no special order:
1) Players you wish would have won at least one slam
- Mary Jo Fernandez (smart player, and a sweetheart)
- Todd Martin (remember all those late nights at the US open?)
- Mal Washington
- Amanda Coetzer (stepped up her game to make it to #3, a female Chang)
2) Players you wish would have won even more slams- Monica Seles!!! (if only...)
- Pete Sampras (call me greedy, I love the guy)
- Michael Chang (one wasn't enough for his grit)
- Jana Novatna (that great serve and volley!)
- Gabriella Sabbatini (seems so wrong she only won one)
- Jim Courier
- Jenny Cap (if only those teenage rebellious years weren't so rebellious)
3) Players you hope will win a slam/more slams
- Andy Roddick (have to step it up buddy! the serve isn't everything)
- Serena and Venus (such amazing atheleticism, I hope they win a lot more)
- Andre Agassi (at least one more, for all he's done for the game)
- Lindsay Davenport (come so close so many times the past two years)
- Daniella Hantuchova (sweet, classy girl)
- Roger Federer ('cause he does everything so right...I feel he deserves even more)
- Rapheal Nadal (no question there'll be more)
- Mary Pierce (the way she's come back, not as much of a \"wish\" as before)

1. Monica was never stabbed
2. Gaby won Wimbledon in 1991
3. Monica won Wimbledon at least once
4. Jen won the U.S. Open in 2003 and 2004
5. Gaby hadn't retired so early
6. The Williams' would play more tennis
7. Roddick, Kiefer, Robredo and Puerta were all to wake up in my bed day after day!
Hey, it's a "wish-list!"
Not sure if I'm the oldest guy here but as for a wishing for someone to win a major: Kathy Jordan of the Evert/Goolagong era. Jordan, from King of Prussia, PA, had awful-looking strokes but was one of the first very athletic women on tour. May have won some major doubles titles. I also wish Tony Roche had had a perfect elbow. He would have been one of the best ever.
I do wish Monica had won more.
Personally I wish Michael Chang had NEVER won a major. He sucks.

Players I wish would have won at least one slam:
Mal Washington (Arthur wants some company)
Todd Martin (so close but could never get one)
Chanda Rubin (good game but injuries her downfall)
Zina Garrison (should've won at least that one)
Players I wish would have won more slams:
Arthur Ashe (pioneer for black men)
Althea Gibson (pioneer for black women)
Monica Seles (stabbing incident was awful)
Steffi Graf (yeah she has a lot but she's my fave)
Gabriela Sabatini (had the talent to win more)
Michael Chang (how did he not with that speed)
Jennifer Capriati (wasted talent)
Boris Becker (ohhh Boom Boom and those short shorts)
Players I hope will win a slam/more slams:
Amelie MANresmo...I mean Mauresmo (super headcase)
Kim Clijsters (if she beats the mental demons)
Serena and Venus (no doubt they will)
Andy Roddick (beginning to wonder if he will)
Rafael Nadal (will have at least 5 French Open's)
James Blake (possibly if he gets a new coach)
Gael Monfils (his time will come)
Ri'chard Gasquet (his time will come)
Roger Federer (no doubt that will happen)
Andre Agassi (just ONE MORE before he hangs it up)
Mariano Puerta (French will be his only chance to)
Marat Safin (headcase with great talent)
Donald Young (best hope for future American ATP)
Tim Henman (at Wimbledon so I can stop hearing the story every f**king year about Fred Perry being the last Brit to win there)
My own add on-Players I hope will never win another slam:
Justine Henin Hardenne ( can't stand her and she's lucky Serena had been out of Compton and living in Palm Beach long enough not to whoop her ass after that hand incident at the French Open a few years ago)
Lleyton Hewitt (racist bastard who knows damn well what he meant in that US Open match with James Blake and has made derogatory gay comments as well)

As with all lists, I always forget.
For those I wish would win a slam, how could I forget Kim Clijsters, Amelie Mauresmo, and Tim Henman?
Clijsters and Mauresmo for raw athletic beauty (I love Mauresmo's one-handed backhand) and the fact that they're nice ladies.
Henman because I think he's cute, and because he's such a classic with his serve and volley game. Love that guy. He probably won't at this point in his career, but it would be great, and fitting if he won a Wimbledon.
I didn't want to be cold and have a "wish had NEVER won a slam category"...but since someone brought it up...
Those I wish NEVER won a slam, or a single tournament for that matter:
- Lleyton Hewitt (so many reasons why...)
- Martina Hings (...and even more reasons...)

My wish is for a Roddick/Nadal US Open final, with Roddick winning. Thats all.

I'll wish for a mere three additional points: 1991 Wimbldon final, Sabatini serving for the title at 30-30 ... two in a row there please. And French Open quarters 1993, Gaby hits an ace instead of double faulting on her first match point at 6-1, 5-1 against Mary Joe. Sabatini then goes on to win the title, of course. wink
It would be nice to see Clijsters and Mauresmo win a Slam. At least one of them, if not both!
And I'd like to see Safin win more Slams also. And, as long as I'm wishing, he'll do so with his hair shaved short again. Just my personal preference.

A couple of old timers I wish had won a major:
-Jose Luis Clerc
-Raul Ramirez
-Tim Mayotte
I also wish Chris had beaten Martina a few more times at Wimbledon.
I wish Aaron Krickstein had beaten Connors at the '91 US Open.
I wish Corretja had beaten Sampras at the Open that year when Pete was vomiting on the court.
I wish these overbearing tennis parents a reservation in a Hell-like dimension.
I wish Borg had retired when he did and wish he never tried that comeback.
I wish Vitas Gerulaitis had won a US Open and that he hadn't died.

I wish:
- Pat Rafter had won a couple of Wimbledons
- Jennifer hadn't had those rebellious years
- Pat Rafter hadn't retired so young
- Monica had had an easier life and sturdier feet
- Pat Rafter had never cut his hair
- Martina could have talked Chris into coming out of retirement with her
- Pat Rafter had never taken to wearing baggy shorts
- Steffi had had a nose job
- Pat Rafter had gotten in touch with his Inner Princess

I wish that Jonas Bjorkman was a better singles player that was consistently in the top 10... 20... 30...
I wish that I didn't have such a crush on Jonas Bjorkman.
I wish that Andy Roddick wasn't so good because I cannot stand him.
I wish that Serena Williams wasn't so good because I cannot stand her.
I wish that Andre Agassi wins at least one more slam, and that he wouldn't have goofed around during that little rebellious portion of the 1990's.
I wish that Zina Garrison-Jackson would have won that one heartbreaking final.
I wish for Olivier Rochus and James Blake to be big stars.
I wish that I could have controlled my teenage crushes on Pat Cash and Henri Leconte.

I thought of one more tiny wish. Gabriela Sabatini d. Monica Seles in the five set 1990 Virginia Slims Championship final.
Stupid 6-2 for Monica in the fifth!
I wish everybody had long healthy careers not cut short by early retirements or greatly diminished by injuries. Some of the players I would have been happy to see more of in top form: Borg, Austin, Jaeger, Seles, Sabatini, Capriati, Hingis, Kuerten, Magnus Norman, Marcelo Rios (yes, I realize he was a creep, but his game was marvellous).
I wish Elena Dementieva could serve.
I wish Amelie Mauresmo, Marat Safin, Nicolas Kiefer and Patty Schnyder could keep their heads together.

I wish Chanda Rubin would have won at least one slam. Seriously doubt she is going to come back and will head straight to retirement.
I wish Mary Pierce would win one more major before its all done.
I wish Irina Spirlea would come back and cause more controversy (remember the US Open where she knocked Venus).
I wish Mariano Puerta would return my calls after that one fateful night we had together! eek!

I wish Henman would win Wimbledon so the damn press would quit doing stories about him every time he plays there.
Ditto Mauresmo at the French.
I wish Currier had had a longer career and had come out before the end of it (or now is ok).
I wish Martina had won that last Wimbledon instead of just being runner-up.
I really, really wish Seles had not been stabbed, and she and Steffi had continued their rivalry for a couple more years.
I wish Martina had won the US Open that year ('86?) instead of losing to Mandlikova in the finals so she could have won the Grand Slam.
I wish McEnroe and Connors had had more class when they were playing.
I wish more slams for Venus and Lindsey, and for Venus and Serena never again meet in a final (because they do not play good tennis against each other).
Actually Mandlikova beating her (in '85 at the U.S. Open) didn't prevent Navratilova from winning the slam because she'd lost to Evert at the French earlier in the year. Her three-major years were '83 and '84 where she lost in the semis at the Australian (possibly to Mandlikova) and freakin' Kathy Horvath at the French.
Edited to add: it was Sukova she lost to at the Australian in 1984 and since Australia was at the end of the year, then, it really was the match that really cost her the Grand Slam.

Gabby

Mary P, Lindz Davenport, Roddick

Wish all the pros had played the French Open in 1976-78 = wish Chris had played and won (probably all 3, almost guaranteed 2).
Gaby--'91 Wimbledon, of course. But also '91 French semi against Monica, when Gaby showed up as flat as she'd ever been. She could have been #1 at that point, and could have beaten Aranxta to win the French then.
Chris-'88 Aussie final. She figured out how to play Steffi one game too late.
Martina N.-'94 Wimbledon. Loved her class in defeat. Would have loved even more a final title.
Monica-'98 French. Ran out of steam and Aranxta's defense....just a couple more winners.
Mary Jo-'93 French. Special magic to get the little bit more needed to beat Steffi.
Players to win one: Henman, classy guy, Zina, also classy, Mary Jo, Kim C.
Players to win more: other than above, Rafter at Wimbledon, Evonne at the US Open, Becker another Wimbledon, Davenport--anywhere.

I wish Chris had beaten Zina in the Quarters at her last US Open in 89. To play Martina in the semis at her last Open would have been a dream.
I wish Mecir would have won a major. Seemed nice enough, and quick.
That Spirlea was a good pick mentioned earlier. A friend of mine, who loved Lendel, just loved her. He said she looked like a female version of Ivan.
It's already been said, but I hope Lindsay wins one more before she goes. I know it won't happen, but can you imagine if it was the French! When she got to the quarters this year I thought maybe, just maybe...

Ain't that the truth. That was one ugly match. Their '92 semi was a better contest. Well, the first set and a half was error-filled, as Mary Carillo said, "Not a classic," but after that it got goooood.

Oh, just remembered a big one. Wish Laver had been able to play each year, instead of not being able to play the majors because he turned pro. Sampras might still be chasing him in total major titles won.

Ah, such a shame! She was up 4-2 in the third and couldn't close it out. Monica though, was just such a fighter. I remember when I watched her, I never thought she would lose. She would be down in matches and just claw her way back. She was actually pushed to 3 sets 3 times during that FO, and probably should've lost all 3 matches, but willed her way to victory each time. I don't think I've seen that type of intensity since. Monica will always be #1 on the sentimental wish list.

someone mentioned this in relation to laver, but my wish would be that the "amateur"/shamateur rule had never existed. without those those weird career stats that people like laver and others crossing into the "professional" field have, we'd all feel a lot less frustrated in the "best ever" discussions.
another wish: that tennis had never been ousted from the olympics post-1924 paris games.

I wish that Capriati had won at least one of her semi-finals appearances at the USO. She's been in 4 semis and lost 3 of them 7-6 in the third. It was just heartbreaking watching her lose those matches. I couldn't even watch the whole match last year vs Dementieva, because I just knew how it would turn out. She really deserved to play in at least one USO final. Capriati has just had such a roller coaster career. Every time she seem like she is building up a good head of steam she lets down again. Sadly, last year might have been her last best chance to add to her majors. She really could have won both the FO and US. Well at least she won as many as she did. Looking back at her troubles in the mid 90's, I don't many thought she would realize any of her potential at all.

-Stefan Edberg won the 89 French
-Edberg won the 89 Wimbledon
-Edberg was gay
-Edberg lived next door to me
-Edberg was my cabana boy
-Ditto everything re Monica and Lindsay above
-Agassi won 90 French
-Hewitt never wins another title
-The Argentinians would get off the juice
-Todd Martin had won a slam
-Natasha Zvereva had won a game in the 88 French finals

Venus - at least 15 more or more....
Serena - definitely more than 20...
Lindsay - just one more so she retires with pride
Kim - its about time
James Blake - has got the game
Tim - Wimbledon, so he gets that monkey off his back
Tommy Haas - really talented
Mark P. - the scud is a real SCUDDD!
Andre - one more so he'll do a Sampras retirement drama
Chanda - even one will make her part of the history
Mary Pierce - one more and say bye to the tours
Monica - if only she never had that incident, 10 more would come her way
Taylor Dent - he can if he wills it
Carlos Moya - one more is sweet for this hunk
Alex Corretja - his peers have won one, he can have one too!
Grosjean - the FO can be his
Clement - the FO can be his too
Schuetler - sooo patient and still needs more patient

No surprise that Monica tops many of these wish lists...mine's no different.
I wish:
She'd grunted her way to the 92 Wimby title.
Her attacker had died at childbirth.
She'd won the 95, 96 US Open finals against Steffi - three setters both including a 6-0 bageling of Steffi in one of them.
She'd finished off ASV in that French final.
I wish I was living with Patrick Rafter wherever he is...
I wish Andy's shorts would fall down once and the cameras caught it from behind.
I wish Marat would do Playgirl.
I wish Nadal would change those damn clamdiggers.

for those of us who can remember:
1) francois durr taking out margaret court or bjk on grass at wimbie
2) goolagong a few more times, especially that wimbie against bjk when she went walkabout
3) sukova at the us open
4) mima jasovic anytime, so small, so damn cute, so nice
5) sabatini a few more trophies
a little more current:
6) plain and simple; MONICA, eight in a row making it two grand slams
7) rafter at wimbie
8) muster at wimbie
9) corretja at the open
10) mary joe at that french against graf

I wish injuries hadn't prevented Andrea Jaeger and Tracy Austin from playing out their careers.
I wish Andrea hadn't lost that 3rd set tiebreak to Mandlikova in the '80 US Open semis. She would have been the 3rd straight 16 and under (following Shriver and Austin) to play Evert in the U.S. Open finals.
I wish Chrissie had beaten Zina Garrison in the '89 U.S. Open quarters so we would have had one last Martina/Chris match
I wish Natalia Zvereva would have beaten Tauziat in the Wimbledon semis in '98. That would have set up a final featuring two players who had suffered painful defeats in grand slam finals against Graf: Novotna -- on the fifth anniversary of her Wimbledon collapse -- VERUS Zvereva -- on the tenth anniversary of her French Open humiliation.
