From the Associated Press:

"The Lake Elsinore Storm has planned a salute to Tom Cruise tonight during its California League baseball game.

Besides giving away a Cruise bobblehead--make that a bobble-couch, depicting the star in full Oprah couch-jumping mode--the San Diego Padres' Class-A affiliate will celebrate the silent birth of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby, Suri, with a silent inning, during which no batters will be announced and no music played.

Other planned activities include a couch-jumping contest, a Scientology information booth, and a retrospective of Cruise's film career.

The Storm's opponent? The High Desert Mavericks, of course. No doubt in honor of Cruise's character in 'Top Gun.'"

I think the best thing about a Tom Cruise bobblehead is that it would be the first life-sized bobblehead! biggrin.gif

And if they can get the fans to be quiet as well it'll be perfect!

OOOPS!!!!!!! The Baltimore Orioles have had to delay Brian Roberts bobblehead night because of a little error--when the bobbleheads were inspected it was discovered that Roberts (who is white) had been given a "dark complexion, better for either a black or Latino player." All in attendance received a chit that could be redeemed in September, when a more anatomically-correct Roberts' bobblehead becomes available.

Couldn't they just have called it the "Brian Roberts with a tan" bobblehead? wink

The Williamsport Crosscutters have a bobblehead in the likeness of a beer vendor....

(there was no photo of the bobblehead on the site, so a head shot was the best I could do)

The Pacific Coast League Portland Beavers are holding Rodney McCray Bobblefence Night -- that's right, Bobblefence -- to honor the player who, playing for Vancouver in a game at Portland, ran through the right field fence 15 years ago, in one of the most famous blooper clips in sports history. Check out the photo of the figurine. Cooler than an ordinary bobblehead!

Rodney McCray's fence-crashing has to be one of the most replayed sports images of the past two decades & I wish I had been in Portland for the bobblefence.

In other weird bobblehead news, the Lake Elsinore Storm, who earlier this year gave away Tom Cruise jumping a couch bobbleheads, will hit a new low this coming weekend: they're giving away bobbleheads in the likeness of a local TV weatherman, Dallas Raines. Are there no standards? smile.gif

A weatherman named Raines. Ha. One of the local stations here has (or had; I never watch their news so for all I know she could be gone) a woman doing the weather on weekends named Amy Freeze. These two ought to get married and produce some freezing rain. tongue.gif

From the Associated Press:

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays decided to give away bobblehead dolls of the team's TV broadcasters De-Wayne Staats and Joe Magrane to the first 15,000 fans who attended a recent home game against Seattle. According to bobblehead expert David Hallstrom, only 14,503 attended the game, meaning 497 bobbleheads were turned away at the gate.

I would have said the 497 bobbleheads were now homeless but am more interested to see that one can be a bobblehead expert. Another career option!

And I'm sure the 14,000 figure was based on tickets sold, so there are probably more bobbleheads available.
