I don't feel good at all about the Seles article on Yahoo...supposedly she's fit, looks good, but any effort she's made on the court the last year or so hasn't been up to par...if the injury isn't healed, if she's not hitting the way she knows she can or did, why prolong this whole "Is she done or not discussion?" Let's be done with it...even those of us who are diehards of diehards when it comes to Monica can't really imagine her coming back after almost three years and playing at an incredible level..we wish for it but really, come on, it's just not likely...So, can we please end the endless speculation...she'll always be one of the greatest with an incredibly dramatic storyline...but let's not drag out this whole chapter any longer...

Bryan, can you post a link to the article? I was watching the tennis channel first thing this morning, 6:30 am Eastern time, crazy time to be up on a Saturday in NYC, but anyway, and caught the last minute of Bud Collins show with tennis journalist. He asked them would Monica come back, and they all said no. They said she wanted to, but the body was not allowing it. She would do a farewell tour but that's about all. I say, forget the farewell tour--that's just embarrassing, rather, just go to the Aussie, French and US Opens on the day of the Ladies Final and take your bow. That would be great and unprecedented.

Some players never officially retire. John McEnroe just sort of fell off the rankings and into the Seniors Tour. Monica may just fade away in a similar manner. I seriously doubt at this point that she'd come back. She's older, her movement was always one of her bigger weaknesses anyway, and she's been off the tour for years now. It seems like a given that she's done.

If she does make an announcement, perhaps she could schedule some exhibition matches with Steffi, Gaby, Aranxta ... the women she played during her prime. I think that'd be better than a flailing return to the professsional tour.
