Full Version: Safin's behavior

Anyone else read Jon Wertheim's bag this week regarding Safin's behavior at the Nasdaq?

Just to set the record straight: Safin dinged up (hardly totaled) the C-Class Benz that he was given to drive during the tournament. He then had his coach ask for an S-Class. When the Mercedes reps saw the minor damage, they effectively said. "S-class? You'll get no class." Safin then allegedly suggested that the Mercedes rep perform a sex act on him. (To compound his boorishness, the Mercedes rep just so happened to be Mal Washington's pregnant wife. D-ohhhh.) The Tour fined Safin $5,000, which he'll be able to find behind the cushions in his couch.

Good for the tournament fining Safin. His "antics" for lack of a better word, get old with me real quick. He acts like a 14 year old spoiled brat. He reminds me alot of the other guy Gorn Ivanisevich. Both need a prolonged and severe spanking with a spiked whip!

Marat better be careful what he asks for! You never know who might be in the room when you haul out the ol' "perform a sex act on me" invite. A boy can dream...

I like Marat a lot, but he's been acting like a real jerk lately...oh and I wish he'll extend the sexual invitation to me...

Safin's behavior sure is frustrating. Physically, he may be the best player out there today. It doesn't seem like any of the young players is able to get to and stay at the top these days. Hewitt has been a surprise to me. In these days of power tennis, I'm surprised (and happy) he's been so consistent. If Safin could get it together, he'd be dominant.

In a way, it almost seems like power is passe on the men's tour. You go back to the mid-90's and the top players included all these huge servers--Ivanisevic, Rusedski, Krajicek, Philipoussis. Safin is the only top player with a big serve now--and he's not a one-dimensional power player, either.

For whatever it's worth, one of my closest friends just sold Safin a $1.5 million condo in South Beach (the papers were signed Thursday) and when she called me to tell me the news she put Safin on the phone (she knows I'm a huge tennis fan) and I kidded him about the mercedes wreck incident and he was joking and saying he never gets a break from the press or the tour officials. I'm not sure what really happened, but Safin seemed real, real nice with a way sexy voice. My friend who sold him the condo also told me that Safin couldn't have been nicer (sending flowers, thank you cards, Crstal champagne--the whole nine yards). Is he a Gemini?
