Brotherly love gone too far?

So sad that he's already finding excuses for his team losing the wild-card.... biggrin.gif

From the article posted by Joe in Philly: "Redman stopped short of saying Wolf allowed his family connection to influence calls, but said, "I guarantee that crosses every player's mind."

"You hope he doesn't do that," Redman said. "It crosses people's minds, but he's a professional."

He wasn't making any accusations or excuses. He even calls Wolf was "a professional." And no one has won or lost anything yet. There was probably a little frustration at the whole crew for a very poorly called series, and that's not a biased statement, if you watch Baseball Tonight or Sports Center you know that.
Joe in Philly
He's not making a direct accusation because he'd look like an idiot. Funny that Jim Wolf's been filling in for at least a couple of years and no one else has thought it was a problem.

If the perception of Jim Wolf being biased had any teeth, then all the wildcard teams chasing the Phillies would be complaining about him umpiring their respective games.

One thing's for sure: Jim Wolf is HOT!

Phillies haven't contended in a few years.

I'll second that

Maybe Mark Redman's just a little jealous.

Your link is a picture of RANDY Wolf, JIM Wolf is an umpire.

What about 2001? Were you following sports then, or were you just born last year?

Sorry, I guess that season got lost under the decade of losing seasons(except 1 rolleyes.gif )after losing the World Series in 1993. And they were only in contention because the Braves managed to win the east with less than 90 wins that year. Not to mention September 11 is kinda the dominant memory that of that year, anyway. Plus, the Marlins and Twins imploded right after the All-Star Break (both were a few games over .500 going in to the break), so my only focus in the playoffs that year was to root for any team that played against the Yankees. Thank God the D-Backs won that series.

No comment from one Wolf, but another responds:

QUOTE
Jim Wolf offered no comment after the game when informed of Redman's comments.

Neither did Randy (Friday) - for a moment.

\"Nobody questioned his integrity when he blew a call against us in Anaheim,\" Wolf recalled, noting that Jim admitted to him he'd blown a call at first base in June that helped cost the Phillies a win. \"The more he's around the game, the less he'll be questioned.\"

As for the implicator, Wolf said: \"I don't even know Mark Redman.\"

And a little family honor defense? A confrontation of some sort when the teams meet in about a month?

\"Nobody'll know if I do,\" Wolf said.

Wonder whether Marlins manager Jack McKeon will pitch Redman against Wolf?
marlins9703twins8791
If it Redman's turn in the rotation, he'll pitch, even if it's against Randy Wolf, who, if he throws at Mark Redman, should be ejected like Mesa should've been last night.
Joe in Philly
Mesa didn't hit anyone. Why would he be ejected? Wendell shouldn't have been ejected either, because there was no intent. Why would you hit someone on purpose when you're trying to hold onto a lead against one of the best-hitting teams in the lead? You don't want to put anyone on base in that situation. Besides, there never should've been a warning issued. There was no headhunting going on.
marlins9703twins8791
Finally, some common sense.

I'll just quote the most important part if you don't want to read the whole article:
QUOTE
Redman has been right all along, and unfairly wronged by those who misinterpreted his remarks.

He'd been under fire for supposedly questioning ''the integrity of an umpire,'' which he never really did. What Redman offered, in fair response to a reporter's fair question, was a comment on a dubious situation of baseball's own creation.
Knowing that Redman's words were a response to a question puts them in a whole different context.
Joe in Philly
Oh, please. A Miami-based writer takes offense? Give me a break.

Question or not, he questioned the guy's integrity.

Good point, Joe.

I don't think most people realize it, but to most umpires, the worst thing someone can do is to question our integrity. Next in line are personal comments or attacks, though this is intertwined w/ the integrity issue.

Disagree with a call, tell me I missed that pitch--that's one thing. But don't ever question my integrity!

Nothing will get you ejected faster, believe me.

Oh, please. Philadelphia-based writers were the ones who caused all the stink to begin with. Don't give me that crap.
