Looking forward to more televised tennis this weekend (yes!!). I saw where Jan-Michael Gambill was beaten by Dent in straight sets yesterday. I think that curtain is slowly beginning to set on Jan-Michael.

Sweetie, that curtain closed a long time ago!

I wonder if Gambill's attempt to switch to the one handed forehand was a little too much, a little too late. He may not be/have been a slam contender, but he's still a babe!
I never thought he was a slam contender or ever would be. Nor have I ever believed James Blake, Mardy Fish, Taylor Dent, Robby Ginepri or the rest to be slam contenders.

I agree with you here JC. For Jan-Michael, I gotta believe if he was serious about wanting to be in the top 20, say, he would have gotten himself a top flight Coach, years ago, instead of relying on his papa.

I've been calling him Jan Michael Kornikova for years. Sadly for him he didn't have anywhere near the success of Anna K on or off the court. He'll be a club pro teaching the blue hairs at the Spokane Tennis Club by the time he's 40.

Roddick's loss to Ginepri I think demonstrates one of Roddick's glaring problems. He can't put bad line calls out of his mind and move on. Once again, he dwells on a bad call to the point he can't even play. After that call, his serve fell apart, he netted some shots, etc....he fell apart. Just like in past matches, some doozies with Hewitt especially.
I like the guy and I want to see him win, but he's got to be able to pull himself together when calls don't go his way. Yes, it sucks to feel you're getting badly screwed out of a point, but it's a reality for all players.
With Federer as far out in front of the rest of the pack, Roddick can't afford to let bad calls put him at even more of a disadvantage. The last title I'd ever want to see Roddick win would be the title of "one slam wonder."

Well we did have Andre Kournikova for quite some time. I remember a lot of people in the late 80's and early 90's complaining that Agassi never did much, never won a slam, etc...and how he just liked to be flashy...all fluff and no stuff. That obviously changed in 92. Maybe not a fair comparison since Anna NEVER won a WTA singles title, but pre-92 Agassi at least had won some ATP titles.
And as mentioned above, not a fair comparison with Gambill, he couldn't even get the "fluff" part down, like Anna did so well, and so lucratively.
(Although I can't be the only one who silently wishes Gambill would venture into porn to make his money.

Your not. The man is gorgeous! I have a huge wall poster of him that's about 3 feet tall by 2 feet wide hanging over my bed to prove it!

eek!

You can get more of him at janmike.org, interesting that in his profile under long term goals he never mentions marriage or children.
Robby Ginepri, who's also quite hunky, has really had a terrific run at the RCA this year. I think I'm still inclined to pick Fish in the final, but Ginepri fought his way through a tougher draw. It seems like ages since he's had any decent results.

I'd love to see Robby and Jan-Mike in a final-now those 2 would get my heart pumping!
And, it's Taylor Dent, not Mardy Fish, in the finals against Robby!
Go Robby!
Yes, you're right. I always get Taylor Dent and Mardy Fish mixed up.

Ginepri looks like a hot muscled stud. He started well, but Dent is just playing so well, Taylor overtook Ginepri and eeks out the first set. I am anxious to see if Ginepri can take it up another level in the second set. C'mon Robbie. Has the same Roddick tweak, where he lifts up his shirt to wipe off the sweat. Just do it more on camera please Robbie.

Come on now, you're anxious to see if he'll take it off....that black shirt in the stifling heat. wink Have noticed that the camera should be pulled back just a bit. If they aren't going to show from the butt up, at least it should be from the top of the shorts, so when he lifts his shirt, we can see good stuff.

Wow, I have never seen Dent so out of it and gone, but he admitted, there was just nothing left in the tank after the first set. Ginepri did play well, and I look forward to seeing him again, real soon. Good looking guy.

Dent is still so out of shape. Granted it was hot out there today but he was done after 1 set. I'd love to see him get in great shape just to see how much damage he could do with that serve and volley game.

Does anyone know how much doubles Dent plays? Maybe he needs to play both singles and doubles in these smaller tournaments in order to build up matchplay endurance.
Otherwise, get Courier's former trainer and bite the bullet, Taylor. We need someone with his style of play in the game.
Id love to see Henman/Dent matchup on grass.

I'm amazed there's no comment on the important stuff ... Robby Ginepri's hair!! It looked fine once he got all sweaty, and he had it hidden under a cap for the final, but did anyone see the semi against Beck? (What a snoozer match that was.) Anyway, to start the semi, Ginepri came out with this red-tinged hairdo that can only be described as Dorothy Hamill-esque. It looked so bad.
I wish I could find a picture ...

A friend of mine called me from Los Angeles just to make me turn on the tv ... he was home alone and had to bring somebody down with him. It was awful. He's actually the one who came up with the very apt Dorothy Hamill comparison.

I was at the the tourny in Indy over the weekend and I have to say that im now a fan of Robbie G. I never was really fond of his game (his looks and body is a different story), but his game never really interested me. However, the match with Roddick was a good match.
I was a huge Roddick fan, but now I dont care if he wins another match. He was a total diva on the court and it was just terrible. At change overs he kept talking to the ump and it got on my nerves so bad. He has lost a fan in me.. that attitude has got to change before i'll root for him again
