Full Version: The "at-bat" songs
Outsports Discussion Board > Outsports > Baseball
Joe in Philly
ESPN's Page 3 has compiled the songs that teams play over the loudspeaker when a player comes up to bat (or in some cases when a reliever comes in from the bullpen). The link

If memory serves me right, the song they have listed for the Phils' Chase Utley is the same song that Six Flags is using for their commercials with the dancing old man. eek!

Interesting link.

Seemed to be a lot of hard rock, metal, rap, hip hop and salsa... didn't see anybody who chose Madonna or the Pet Shop Boys as their "at bat" song. But I guess that would be too obvious. wink

Some of the choices are interesting (and appropriate):

Dan Wilson (Mariners): What a Man, Salt-N-Pepa

Javy Lopez (Orioles): Yeah!, Usher

J.D. Drew (Braves): Ain't Going Down, sad.gif Garth Brooks

I think this is a very interesting thread and link. I am surprised that for the Yankees link, they didn't discuss one of the most appropriate songs for a specific player. There is nothing more perfect than being at Yankee Stadium in the top of the ninth and seeing Mariano Rivera enter with Metallica's "Enter Sandman" playing.

Nobody picked David Bowie's "Boys Keep Swinging"?? tongue.gif

Wow, who's their (inept) compiler? The Giants' JT Snow uses the Who, "Won't Get Fooled Again". Never heard him use the Van Halen tune they mention. And they forgot Marquis "Old School" Grissom, who alternates between "Doin' it to Death" (aka "We're Gonna Have a Funky Good Time") and Kool & the Gang's "Hollywood Swingin'").

And Barry's "More Bounce to the Ounce" is by Zapp, not George Clinton.

They only show at-bat songs for 6 players of the Oakland A's, three of which are Hudson, Mulder and Zito! How many times are you going to hear those at-bat songs? rolleyes.gif

I used to love the song they played for Lo Duca...Going Back to Cali...it was my favorite one they did for the Dodgers. The rest I don't really care for. Lately my favorite stadium anthem song has been "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas.

Damn! I figured for Mike Piazza we'd hear Dancing Queen. Or was it It's Raining Men?

New to the board, so hello, everyone. smile.gif

Two explanations about some players' choices:

Cleveland Indian Ronnie Belliard's at-bat song (don't know if it's chosen by him or for him) is, as it appears on the ESPN page, "Groove With Me Tonight" by artist MDO. For those who don't know, MDO has been for some years now the new version of MenuDO. ohmy.gif

And, appropriately, Detroit Tiger Iván Rodríguez's is the song "Culo." Culo is the vulgar (at least, vulgar in most of Latin America) word in Spanish for ass. wink biggrin.gif

Barry Zito's: Beat It

(David Cone used this one as well when he played.)
