Full Version: Phils better not follow Mets path

Joe in Philly
Yesterday the Mets became the first National League team to not win a game at home in an entire month, and the calendar change didn't help as they lost to the Phils again today.

Many Phillies fans complain that the team won't spend more money on players. Here's exhibit A against that: the New York Mess. You have to spend the money WISELY.

And has anyone noticed that the Phils have gone from last to 2nd place, now are above .500, and are 20-11 since undergoing "cancer surgery"? Hmmmmmm...

Peripatetic Joe, you beat me to the punch on this one. But I wonder, if the Mets are the first NL team to achieve the feat of losing every home game in a calendar month, has an AL team done the same?

It's happened a couple of times in the AL: the Detroit Tigers in September 1996 and an expansion team, the Seattle Pilots, in August 1969.

The '69 Pilots being the team Jim Bouton wrote one of the Great Books of the 20th Century about, of course.

With last night's end to the historic home losing streak... if you want the Phils to avoid the Mets' costly, veteran path to oblivion, Joe, I would suggest you lobby them not to shore up their post-Rolen PR with "popular" but dumb moves like the Metsies' expensive 2-year extension of nearly-37-year-old Al Leiter, who is looking more sub-ordinary with each passing week.

Those poor Mets. I'd cry for them but I'm to busy laughing. This is what happens to a team when theres a rumor of a gay teammate. Just think what will happen if one actualy comes out.

Yer kiddin', I assume.

No, this is what's apt to happen when you acquire a lot of "big names" who are getting old very fast. Under 30 is a very good age to be a ballplayer, generally speaking.
