Very nice article on Navratilova on the cover page - Martina really is something special. Plus, there's a brief mention of Gabriela, which always makes me happy.

But since when is Conchita Martinez out or a notable lesbian? I don't think she's ever publically admitted her lesbianism, unless you count the year she tanked out of the third round of the US Open to avoid having to play then-lover GiGi Fernandez. (1994?)

As far as I know, Amelie Mauresmo and Martina Navratilova are (shockingly) the only out lesbians on the WTA Tour. Which is two more than the ATP can boast, granted.

I knew someone was gonna razz me about the lesbians/ATP tour as soon as I wrote that ... but then I decided I'd dangle that carrot and see who bit.

Actually, it might be fun--as a parody of the "is X gay" threads--to have a thread speculating on what ATP players might actually be lesbians in drag.

JC....Personally, I've always found it curious that Irina Spirlea disappeared from the women's tour just before Max Mirnyi burst onto the ATP scene...double hmmmm wink
