I don't think I'll be playing in Montreal - much to the delight of organizers and spectators everywhere, no doubt. I actually discussed it with some friends at one point, but now I'm planning on being in Montreal just a little over a month after the games, so the timing's not good.

Mostly, I just wanted to say welcome to pwine. I think you're the Tennis forum's first fan from China! Hope you stay a while smile.gif

pwine, welcome to the Tennis Forum.

I am going to the Gay Games in Chicago, for both tennis and athletics, just before Monteal.

Not a political decision, the Chicago dates suit my schedule. And besides, 24 hour parties wreak havoc on my high back-hand volley smash.

I played in Gay Games VI in Sydney and wouldn't miss Gay Games VII in Chicago. The Executive Director of Chicago Games is a regular player on the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) tour, so I'm sure he'll make sure the event is second to none in terms of quality.

One big consideration is that Chicago is NOT going to be sanctioned by an ITF Affiliate like the USTA or Tennis Canada, so you don't have to worry about becoming a member of the regional ITF affiliate in order to play. You also don't have to worry about some local ringer coming out of nowhere for no other reason than to improve his or her "mainstream" ranking by playing in the event. The Gay Games are of course open to everybody, but they are dedicated to LGBT athletes. I've played ITF sanctioned events. Team events are okay, but individual events are boring, and there is absolutely no camaraderie like at the Gay Games.

Anyway, we hope you'll consider coming to Chicago!

Safe travels,

Rich Williams
GLTA delegate to the Federation of Gay Games

Hey pwine, welcome to the board. How exciting to have someone posting from Asia.

Rich, thanks for giving us the scoop on tennis...Chicago vs. Montreal. I passed this along to a few of my tennis buddies in Kansas City, they were not aware of these facts and this has helped them to choose Chicago!! :-)

I'd love to, but my stupid job hasn't figured out that I was only hired to look pretty. They're still expecting me to work! Bastards.

I love Montreal, though. Wonderful city. If I could go, I would, but the trip next year is for a commitment ceremony - my first! - so I really can't bag on that.

Have you guys ever taken part in any tennis games?
You know in China there are tournaments for amateur players ,those professional players are not allowed to take part in it.But you know the system in China is strange ,so some guys who was not chosen by the pro teams become "amateur players" ,and they take part in these tournaments and get the prize money.....
recently ,some good players from neighbouring area Taiwan ,HK, and Russia ,as well as some ABC(America born Chinese)also take part in this game ,and usually they can get a good achievement .
so I wonder if you guys have interest in taking part of such tournaments in China.
Pwine welcome everyone here coming to China.

Yes, I play about four or five tournaments a year. So far there are no tournaments in Asia. We have some Japanese players who go to Honolulu to play, but they have never organized anything in Japan. It would be great if you wanted to organize one!

Yes ,it would be great if the glta tournament could be held in china. So far as I know ,not so much homo tennis players here.Maybe those who play well hide their identity as a homo.
that's human nature in China.
WEll ,could you tell me if I want to organize a tournament in china ,what can I do ,and what I should do?
thanks

I don't know the full scope of what it takes to register a tourney on the GLTA calendar, but I know it starts by having a local gay & lesbian tennis group apply for membership with the group. For instance, in New York, the local tennis group is called MTG. MTG submits an application and membership fee to the GLTA for official recognition. Once the local group obtains membership, they can then apply to have the GLTA sanction their tournament.

I'm sure any additional info or contact information one might want could be found on the GLTA Web site.
