Marshall 27, Kansas State 20
Apparently Bill Snyder's plan for scheduling all mid-majors for K-State's out-of-conference schedule just isn't sufficiently wussified to guarantee the wins.
I hear that Snyder's revising the schedule so that, next year, the Wildcats open with Bryn Mawr. Smith College was deemed too tough after Snyder got a look at the crew team.
After that, they're hosting the Sigma Chi house from Georgia Southern. Unless, of course, Sigma Chi wins the intramural championship. Then they'll be dropped for the ZBT's.
I still hate how Snyder draws up a schedule for his team. They'll never get or deserve any respect until they start playing people out-of-conference. (Sorry you UMass and McNeese State fans out there for labelling your team insufficient competition.)

CITT, I totally agree. K State fans, you wonder why your team plays the Alamo Bowl while Notre Dame at 9-3 still plays major bowl games?

Please, the team with the wuss schedule is OU. North Texas state, Fresno state. It's no wonder there #1. Whats next for them, St. Pattys' girl school for the blind.

Thumper, OU played at Alabama and hosted UCLA. That makes two teams from BCS conferences, which is two more than KSU had on their schedule.
And playing Fresno State and N Texas is not the reason OU is #1. They're #1 because a majority of pollsters and coaches believe they have the best team in the land. I also happen to agree with that sentiment, although I would have to mention Miami in the same breath.
The Sooners have the best defense in 2003. It'll take them far.
Two more? Uh...did California get expelled from the Pac-10 while I wasn't paying attention? K-State does have a history of ridiculously weak schedules, but there are some signs of change (they played USC last year). Their out of conference schedule looks stronger to me than Virginia Tech's.

I stand corrected; they did play Cal. But to draw comparisons between OU and KSU's non-conf schedule seems ludicrous. And OU's in-conference schedule is considerably harder as well.
Yeah. KSU did play USC for 2 years. But KSU has a long track record of avoiding big time opponents outside the Big 12. I remember all those years ago when KSU was putting together its first great season, and garnered little support in the polls. Their fans whined. But the KSU schedulers were put on notice. They made faint attempts by adding a program here and there to offset the criticism. And then they quit. It was back to the same old ways.

instead of cracking on K-State, give Marshall some credit
They went in and beat the number 6 team in the nation. That is the highest ranked team ever defeated by a MAC school.
Marshall gave Tennessee a damn good game a couple of weeks ago and now they've proven how good they are, even if Toledo beat them last week.

Marshall has always been considered a force, one of the best in the MAC for football, (also hoops), though they might not be as well known outside the MAC. So it's not really a surprise they won. If teams never scheduled the MAC, how can we make judgments? Those West Virginny boys are tough !
The MAC still has a boatload of horrible teams, but Marshall, Northern Illinois, and Toledo are only mid-majors in the sense that they would likely finish in the middle of the pack in a major conference.
