Several character witnesses spoke on Parker's behalf Friday, including Gators coach Billy Donovan.

Parker and Farrah Stephanie Moise were arrested Dec. 7, 2004, for allegedly trying to sell about a pound of cocaine to an undercover Gainesville police officer.

Parker was Donovan's first recruit at Florida. He played for the Gators from 1997 to 2001 and finished his career with 579 points.

He took over as Donovan's special assistant in September 2003 after a two-year minor league basketball career. His duties included helping run summer camps and assisting in recruiting.

At UF, character matters.

Florida football Coach Urban Meyer said Monday night he will not suspend players Kenneth Tookes, Andre Caldwell and Reggie Lewis for their roles in a gun incident last month.

Tookes admitted to firing the gun, which was registered to and owned by former Gator cornerback Dee Webb. Police confiscated four of Webb's guns from the scene.

Meanwhile, Meyer said he feels sure the behavior problems of star recruit Percy Harvin will end when he becomes a Gator this summer.

Harvin, a Virginia wide receiver some recruiting services listed as the nation's No. 1 recruit, was suspended by the Virginia High School League for repeated misconduct as a football and basketball player.

Meyer is just like all the rest of college football's big-time coaches. When it comes to doling out discipline, he talks big and carries a small stick.

What was Meyer's punishment for his \"Gainesville Gunslingers\" -- the three current UF football players who recently were implicated for riding around town with loaded guns in their car and firing off an assault weapon into an occupied dwelling? Meyer said Tuesday he has dealt with the three players -- Kenneth Tookes, Andre Caldwell and Reggie Lewis -- internally and now is \"moving on.\"

Here's my three guesses as to what the in-house punishment will be:

1. Monthly allowance from Tank Black trust fund cut in half.

2. One week of PlayStation restriction.

3. Assault rifles confiscated and replaced with semiautomatic Glocks.

What a bummer this must be for UF (University of Firearms) fans, who have been bragging incessantly about their tough-talking coach and his demands that players live up to a certain code of conduct. The first chance Meyer gets to publicly put the hammer down and what does he do? He privately doles out some unknown penalty.

BTW, it seems to me that both UF and FSU had teams in the NCAA basketball tournament (FSU women, UF men and women), as did the USF women and, for that matter, the FAU women. Wow, something to look forward to -- maybe someday, you can be the basketball power of FAU. Tee hee hee.
