Herr Tiggee
One can only imagine what he would've done had he possessed a gun during that Rutgers game....or after being suspended for other team rule violations prior to the Pitt game.

That's the great thing about being in the NFL. Now he has $$$$$, so he can buy all the guns he wants in order to right the wrongs he couldn't defend in college.

Hope he gets his shit together. Maybe he needs him some Jesus, or Allah. Just sayin'.
WVUBuff
The difference between Henry & Marcus Vick.

Henry gets suspended for flipping off the Rutgers crowd & also Henry was told he would not be welcomed back at WVU after his antics in the Gatro Bowl.

WV fans are embarrased of Henry and were last season. He's not a true Mountaineer and was a cancer to the program all of last year as our team went from preseason #5 to finsih the season at 24th.

WVU fans even during his antics were not sympathetic to the excuse he's a misunderstood black guy. Whatever that means....

WVU suspended him & after he came back with same attitude, told him he is not welcomed back on the football team. He has commited his crimes in the NFL, thus this is not a reflection of the WVU family as we attempted to rehibiltate the attitude problem before he commited a crime.

Marcus Vick 2

After 2 drug charges, the sex debacle wtih 14 and 15 yeasr olds, & reckless driving, Marcus Vick was allowed to play after flipping off the WVU crowd, intentionally hitting a WVU assistant in the back of the head with an elbow for no reason, and thowing the ball in the face of a player after the play was dead ( all in the same game) and VT did not suspend him.

Of course, this was during his alleged trial period where zero policy was suppose to be enforced. What a joke that was. However, VT finally spoke up after Louisville's Dummervill leg was stomped on by Vick in the Gator Bowl. What is worse for Tech, Beamer had kept silence on the driving on suspended license on Dec 18th in Hampton by Vick and didn't inform the Tech administration because he knew the zero tolerance policy would be an issue. And last but not least, VIck pulling the gun at MacDonalds just last month on 16 year old kids.

My point? There is a huge difference in how WVU and Tech handles their star players.

At WVU on their first offense of trouble, they get suspended and after that, they are kicked off the team.

At VT, you have players on third to 6th offenses still parading up and down the sideline.

WHen you have 100 kids on a football team, you can't babysikt them 24/7. Its how you respond & act after these incidents that defines the soul of a university.

That is how you assess universities.

I'd certainly hope that universities are assessed on a little more than how it handles troublesome football players. If that's the sole consideration, then UF gets big kudos for booting Taurean Charles after the keg-throwing incident - and keeping him off the team (but allowing him to continue his studies) despite his pleas of rehabilitation.

But colleges do more than discipline thugs (unless they're Floridas State, which recruits and babies them). They also offer: degrees! To: nonathletes! wink

That being said, Buff makes some good points about the difference between WVU and VT. Maybe that's why WVU is not in the ACC: thuggish enough to be D-1A, but not thuggish enough to be associated with VT, f$u, and cryami.

p.s. yes, Herr Police, I know the scUM smack belongs elsewhere. Punish me.

Edited to add: But I do think that universities have special responsibilities to student-athletes, and that's why they DO need to "babysikt" them. Works for Urban Meyer. wink

LOL sorry about the typos. I should proof read befroe I submit.

Yes, universities should be known for more than how they handle their athletes. My post was in the context of Chris Henry.

WVU and its fans were emabarrased for & by him last year. After being the Big East rooked of the year 2 years ago with 100 yard receiving, he was suppose to be one of the key factors that was suppose to allow WVU contend for a National Championship last year.

However, his behavior from the onset made WVU a really good team with talent to a unstable underperforming team.

Chris Henry was booed at home games for his antics. WVU fans have a horrible repuation. But, they aren't blinded by their love for West Virginia football to blind them from obvious character flaws.

WHen a University sells its soul ( Miami, FSU, VT, Alabama, Ohio State, Kentucky) it honestly takes away from college football.

I'm right there with you Buffy. Putting a price on the soul of your university gets you no where.

I agree too, WVU. As hard as 4 losing seasons in 5 years was to watch...Penn State didn't sell out. Although many tried to get Paterno fired, he withstood the pressures, changed his coaching ways in some areas, and produced a top 3 team. Winning is GREAT, but it is not everything if it ruins your University's image and reputation.

In today's Phila. Daily News there's info from something called "G&W Recruiting Report" which ranks the recruiting classes. They've ranked West Virginia's class fourth.

Fourth, that is, in the Big East, behind Pitt, Louisville and Rutgers.

None of these schools is in their overall top 20; by comparison for you, Penn State, your school is third nationally according to that ranking.
ClemsonTigah
Okay, 'Buff and t-daddy, I know your Mounties didn't have a highly ranked signing class. Forget that. Did you address your needs, and do you expect any recruits in this class to augment next year's team immediately?

I never want to hear anybody complaining about us making fun of West Virginia again! I just read the story entitled "Everybody's Been Pittsnogled!" in the 1/30/06 edition of SI.

Among the gems we learn about this deity in West Virginia:

His mom has two tattoos (at his urging).
Yes, he grew up in a trailer park.
His mom dropped out of high shcool to marry his father at 18.
He drives a 1995 light-blue Oldsmobile Aurora with 20-inch rims.
While playing golf last summer, he drove the cart on the green and only moved it after sinking his putt.
And the kicker-- at his wedding, they served corn dogs and pizza!

Redneck, thy name is Pittsnogle! biggrin.gif

I really haven't looked at the class yet

but I do want to answer KWG-his mom is how old?

I know 40-something women who are now getting tattooed

trailer park-I bet no one on here ever lived in one/I doubt his family could really afford more and there are no trailer parks in that enlightened state of Florida I bet

as for the golf thing, I have no idea what you're talking about since I don't play and have never played and lord willing, will never play

what's redneck about a 1995 Olds Aurora-I don't even know what an Olds Aurora is other than a car?

as for the corn dogs and pizza, bring it on baby!

he's in college and his wife is still in school as well-do you think that they could necessarily afford prime rib and champagne?

and as for his mom dropping out of school, hello-why is that redneck?

you'll find that in all racial groups; nearly all communities

KWG, good try at smack but you know, it fell short
WVUBuff
Way Short

What you failed to mention that even the Sports Illustrated article states was KP's mother and father worked their way out of poverty. KP's mother graduated from college with a degree in nursing and healthcare administration. His dad became a manager at a auto mechanic store. They moved out of their trailer park and live in a nice home in Martinsburg , WV ( DC Suburb). Chances are KWG, his mother now doubles your salary and his dad matches it.

Also, I love the story of the Canes football player that was arrested 4-6 times in High school ( a couple very serious offenses), yet was still allowed to enroll at the "U".

Yup, souless.

Regarding WVU's recruiting class. WVU only had 15 scholarships to give out this year. We signed a solid class. We missed two recruits Coach RR wanted , but picked up 3 others he built this season's class on.

Even though just a 3-star, 6-6 WR Lyons out of Pittsburgh picked WVU over 25 offers. His final five was Ohio State, Miami, Oklahoma, BC, and WVU. His brother plays at OSU. Evidently, Joe Pa wanted him badly, but the speedster with great hand and leaping abilty didn't like the way PSU recruited hir older brother. He never considered Pitt. LOL!

Another name to watch is 6-1 Saftey "Hollywood" Davis from VA. He chose WVU over Va Tech, Tennessee, UVA, & Ohio State. He seems like he could start next year since WVU lost its only 3 starters on defense in the secondary. He reminds many of Pac Man and is a prime time player without the antics.

Those are the two biggest recruits we picked up. I am aware that many are baffled at how WVU can win a BCS bowl game and still only have a 45-5- class. cConsidering WVU had a mid 20's class last year, its kinda odd from an outsiders perspective. Attribute this to limited scholarships. Next year is when WVU should have a monster class ( 15-25). With a state with a small population, WVU doesn't have theluxury of having 3 to 4 4 star recruits playing in the state's high school football. Thus, you will never see WVU in the top 10 in recruiting. It will always be a school known to develop players and find the gems.

Also, as Coach RR stated, some of those 4-5 star recruits that other school land couldn't play DEAD in most Western Movies.

wink

We needed help on the lines and in the secondary and appear to have addressed those needs. You never can tell with recruiting. Last year, we signed one of the top RBs in the country last year, Jason Gwaltry (sp) from Long Island. He was one of the biggest recruits WVU ever landed. He lasted a semester. He's now back on Long Island.
WVUBuff
Gwaltney was arguably the best RB recruit in the Nation last year. He gained 300 yards in the first 5 games this year, but after other true freshman ( Slaton) took over, Gwaltney didn't have a chance in comparison. Slaton was arguably one of the better freshman in college football over the last 10-15 years. He was only a 3 star recruit coming out of high school compared to Gwaltney being a 5 star.

IMO, Gwaltney will end up at either Rutgers, UCONN or Syracuse.

Gwaltney was very heavily recruited by USC. He was having a pretty good game vs. Rutgers this year when he messed up his ankle. Unfortunately, it was all down hill from there. He stopped going to class and apparently to his physical therapy sessions as well. Can you imagine what a Gwaltney/Slaton backfield would have been like?
WVUBuff
Gwalteny for power and Slaton with Speed! WOW

I like Owen Schmitt at Full back too. He's a tough nosed kid and gives 110 percent.

I wish Gwaltney would have worked out, but wish him the best whwever he lands.

USC is still interested in him. But, I doubt he will venture out of the East since he was homesick at WVU. . That is why I think he will stay within a hour or from Long Island and play at UCONN or Rutgers. Maybe in upstate NY at Syracuse.

That's what all good coaches say when they don't land 4-5 star recruits. rolleyes.gif Trust me, RR would love to have JoePa's recruits from the past 2 years.

But I will give you this, only having 15 schollies to give does hurt your ranking with these recruiting "gurus." I'm not sure that's fair. They also don't always factor in recruiting for need, but only factor in the rankings of who you bring in.

And I will admit that some 4-5 star recruits fizzle, while some 3 star recruits step it up big time. Be that as it may, I would rather have a class of 3-4-5 star recruits, than a class of 2-3 star recruits. From JoePa's press conference about a week ago... Reporter: Do you get more excited over some recruiting classes than others? JoePa: I don’t get excited until I see them out there and somebody hits them in the mouth.

As for all those recruits that were committing to WVU over PSU (one of your earlier posts), we seem to have done just fine, thank you, without them. And we still may get Vidal Hazelton, who verballed to USC, but doesn't have a valid LOI yet.

Off topic alert: So, last years class was ranked #12 (by Scout, I think) and had the #1 overall player (Derrick Williams); this year's class ranks somewhere between 4th and 6th by most services. Best of all we recruited to need both years, while getting some highly ranked recruits. We lose some very good seniors, but have some strong letterman returning (including the entire linebacking corp led by Butkus and Bednarik winner, co-captain Paul Pozlusny), and of course the fab freshman receivers, and a 1000 yard running back. 5 star QB recruit (I think the #2 ranked QB coming out of HS) Morelli takes over the offense, so will see if the "Pitt reject" (LOL) is as good as advertised. At least he has people to throw the ball to. How well the o-line comes together may be key. I'm not predicting another 1 loss season next year, but I don't think we'll be falling back into another losing record either. And watch out in 2007!

Pennsylvania is becoming an all about battle over recruiting.

Pitt did suprisingly well this year. Penn State did good in state, but did really well out of state like they always did.

While WVU past recruiting classes have always been averaged, this year had better depth.

We landed 2 PA kids over PSU. That is huge for WVU. & for future recruiting battles. Im still not sold on Coach Wanny from Pitt as a field general. He has proven he can bring expceptional talent to Pitt. But, how that equates to the field is a whole different issue.

ALso, in the last two weeks, Maryland has dropped WVU from the schedule for 2007 & 2008. The Fridge sees WVU as unwinnable with its young talent and wants to play another 2- game series in thos years and picking up the rivalry game again in 2009. If I were WVU, I would drop Maryland from the schedule all together for being scared. When WVU was rebuilding 4 years ago, it never would have been so cowardly to suggest a 2 year break.

if he's shown himself to be a problem off the field, like he did in M-town, then he'll be lucky to get a I-AA school interested, which is sad because he is talented
