So far (as of end of 12-27), here's the stats

Mountain West 2-0
SEC 1-0
ACC 1-1
Big East 1-0
MAC 1-0
Conf USA 0-1
Sun Belt 0-1
Big 12 0-1
Pac-10 0-2

Pac-10 appears poised for a huge flop. And if Bama can beat a superior Iowa State squad, SEC is looking strong.

When looking through the sports section of the paper this week, I noticed that all of the Big 10 teams are underdogs in their bowl games. So I guess if they go 0-6 in the bowls (as expected), they will just have to be happy with the big payouts.

Well, the Big Ten has once again proven to be the Big Flop. I guess they should be thankful that Michigan State got to play Fresno State....we'll see what the Illini do later tonight. Was hoping for the Big East to run the table, but VA Tech (overrated all year) ruined that....

ACC is 4-1. Not bad for a basketball league!

SEC has run roughshod over Big 10 this year. Well, except for SC/Ohio St...which got close after a huge SC lead.
But Tennessee mashed Mee-sha-gen, and LSU dominated Illinois in a way that leaves even me stunned. LSU appears to have been able to score at will. I don't know if they've just improved, or whether Illinois was just a pretender. I think it was a little of both.

And since I was away for the New Year, let me chime in with yet another opportunity to say...

"I told you so, BYU backers!"

I don't know is Cyd was planning a year-end poll, but if he was, I'm sure that we would still have somebody out there who is stubborn enough to rank BYU in the top 15. Puhhh-leeeeze!

AU Tiger - LSU has improved. This team won six in a row at the end of the season, an unheard of event in Tiger land. Go back and look at the Auburn and Tennessee games, and you can see that we were scoring with ease.

Sabin is the coach the faithful have prayed for over the years. The team in the Sugar Bowl was not the team that was playing in late Sept & early Oct.

True, even if one of those wins was in . . . the Humanitarian Bowl. A 6-5 Clemson team posts a glorious victory over 7-4 Louisiana Tech. Whoopee! The way Clemson & the ACC bought their way into this low-rent game is bowl politics at its most tawdry. Clemson agreed to buy 8,000 tickets at $33 apiece, & the ACC agreed to get the bowl a sponsorship. Maybe they conference will start sending its fifth-place team to Boise, Idaho every year--as an incentive to finish fourth.

All in the context of rivalry, of course, S.C. Gamecocks fans have been having fun with this one. There was a contest to decide on a slogan for this year's game, which brought out this gem: "Humanitarian Bowl '01 - You'll Freeze Your Woody Off". Runner-up: "Humanitarian Bowl '01 - U.C.L.A. & Ole Miss aren't this dumb".

Glad to admit it. The Big Ten was awful again this year. The Illinois and Michigan games were horrible. OSU was on the path to embarassment, but they ended up making it a worthy effort. I am just glad that Purdue was humiliated! 6 point loss to a 10-2 Wazzou ain't so bad after all!

I said that I thought it was a little bit of both - LSU having improved AND Illinois being a pretender. You don't have to read anything into the besmirchment of Illinois being a "slight" toward LSU's win. They played well, but I still think Illinois did not look all that hot.
