Hmm, maybe the day that someone comes out IS getting closer.

Confidence key to breaking the Silence

Though there's nothing especially new or revelatory in it, it's interesting to see them start the discussion with no apparent prompting. What do you think of the article? Do you think someone's close to coming out?

The way this country is heading, if any professional player comes out the RR will try to amend the constitution to keep gays from playing professional sports!

But seriously, thanks for the link. Being such a huge college basketball fan I have always loved ESPN's excellent coverage of the sport. In fact I would credit them with helping to bring the frenetic energy that the sport has today.

I was therefore quite happy to find more recently, that ESPN is arguably the most progressive and gay friendly of all the sports networks.

I am a little disappointed that Dan Savage is quoted stating that three percent of the male population is gay, just seems to me like a low number; of course I've lived most of my life in major urban areas.

I too wonder if we are being led into a major leaguer coming out, this article coupled with the one recent on CNNSI by Jon Wertheim about a tennis player coming out.

I like the way this article ends quoting the "player" saying that he's going to have sex because it's the law, but in the end he just wants to play ball. I think most well adjusted gay men feel the same way--we want to have sex but it's not priority number one, maybe just number two, but we are more than just our sexual preference.

This isn't a new column. It's from February 9th. I'm sure we've discussed it before.

You're right. Sorry about the duplication.

I think you're reading too much into it. First of all, Wertheim didn't write a whole article about it... he simply responded to a reader's letter as to why there were no out gay tennis players. And secondly, gay people have been getting a lot more attention lately, be it "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" or on the gay marriage issue. I think the author is only going with what is the "hot topic" in the media recently. As much as I'd like to see a gay major leaguer (and I'm sure there are a few out there), I'm not reading anything deeper into this article.

I think I started the last thread, but must have rolled off.
