Unbelievably my alma mater which has struggled in the early season with only one win to their credit and god awful losses to Buffalo and Villanova are dominating Tennessee 14-7 at the half in front of 105,000! Im absolutely in shock! RU ran the opening kickoff 101 yards for a td and then Coach Schiano had the balls to do an onsides kick which Rutgers recovered and even though they didnt score it set the tone for the game. Tennessee scored after a Ryan Cubit INT gave the Vols great field position. After that I expected RU to fold but their defense continued to stifle Tennessee and the offense controlled the ball. The only negative was that RU should be up by more but time ran out in the first half with RU having the ball on the Tennessee 1 so they should be up 17-7 or even 21-7.
It would be an upset of monumental proportions since RU is like a 45 or so point underdog. It harkens back to 1979 when RU just in the infancy of playing Division 1A teams came into Tennessee as 52 and half point underdogs and won the game 13-7. The big joke in the Tennessee newspapers that year was..."whats a rutgers?". Well the Volunteer fans found that out back in 1979 and if they dont remember they are getting a lesson in it tonight. Great to see something finally go good on the football field for RU!

Well maybe not but I at least had an enjoyable Saturday for a change. Tennessee wins 35-14 but RU showed that they can play Division 1A college football. It gives me hope that they can pull off a Big East win or 2 this year!

There's always Temple...

Joe....Yikes! Temple has crushed Rutgers 3 of the last 4 years. I remember when I was in school RU regularly crushed Temple by the scores of 41-0 and ouch 62-0 at Giants Stadium. The roles have been reversed lately. Temple is ending up getting the boot from the Big East because their lack of committment but RU has been the least competitive team in the Big east the last 4 years. However RU has the committment, resources, a stadium, and a loyal die hard of 15-20K fan base with loads of potiential for more. Temple lacking a stadium really has no potiential playing in Philadelphia and the campus is simply not all the nice either.

Rutgers fans, console yourself with this one indisputable fact:
Your head coach, Greg Schiano, is the HOTTEST looking coach (person?) in college football:

Yeah we can hang our heads on the that....I think hes only like 34 or 35. Unbelievably if he waited a little longer and didnt take the RU job he would have been coaching the # 1 ranked Hurricanes right now!

Watching Schiano patrol the sidelines is definitely the best thing about watching Rutgers football. Without a doubt, he's one of the hottest coaches in all of football.
I also think that, given a few years, he'll turn this program around. RU's performance at Tennessee, while not a win, could be a huge confidence boost for the program. They also played well two weeks ago at Pitt and with any offense at all, could have pulled off the upset.
