Our tax dollars, tuition, fees, surcharges, etc. at work. Why not institute a program wher eyou pay coaches base don graduation rates, not just national media attention?

A staff member at VT explained to me that at least here, the athletic department is almost maintained as a "separate" business. They do not receive any tuition dollars or state funding.

They only receive a small part of the fees, and that is only to provide free tickets to students.

VT athletics gets the majority of its money from donations and game/TV revenue. This money is used to pay for the scholarships, uniforms, coaches, travel, etc. (and to also heavily suppor the non-revenue generating sports)

Therefore, it seems that if the school is a top program and gets the donations and ticket/TV revenue, then they can afford to pay the coaches high salaries.

From LSU Athletic Director Skip Dertman: "Don't forget that the LSU Athletics Department is a totally self-sufficient auxiliary of Louisiana State University. LSU Athletics uses no state tax dollars and it takes no student fees." Link

"Dertman" should be Bertman...
