Yeah, its preseason. But the two polls hold huge sway in the BCS rankings down the road. Here's the composite, with total first place votes from both polls in parentheses.
1. Oklahoma (61)
2. Ohio State (55)
3. Miami (7)
4. Texas
5. Michigan (2)
6t. Auburn (2)
6t. KSU (1)
8. USC
9. Va Tech
10. Georgia
11. Pitt
12. FSU
13t. Maryland
13t. Tennessee
15. LSU
16. NC State
17. Virginia
18. Washington
19. Notre Dame
20t. Purdue
20t. Wisconsin
22. Arizona State
23. Florida
24t. Colorado State
24t. Oklahoma State
IMHO, 9 of the Top 10 happen to align with my own views on who has a legitimate shot at winning it all, the exception being Va Tech.
Being an SEC and ACC follower, I'd have to say FSU and Tennessee appear overvalued at this point.

Though I'm not expecting Big Things this year, perhaps my guys can knock those two down a notch or so...

how about Kansas State?
are they that good or is their schedule resembling the Hostess shelf at the Quickie Mart?

I don't buy OU as the #1 team, in fact I have them down at #9. Their defense seems to be a "sum of the parts is greater than the whole" deal, very capable of lapsing, and I just don't think the offense is gonna bail em out this year.

What? OU has the best defense in the nation. Their offense will probably only have to score 16 points per game and they'll go 11-0. Offense, shmoffense. They don't need it. Their D will suffocate most of their opponents.
Their only weakness last year was that they got burned on deep bombs in a couple of games. You better believe Stoops has drilled the D on this issue all summer. The Sooners are a one-loss team at worst, and that still might be enough to put them in Nawlins.
If you wanna talk overrated, I'd say Ohio State will drop like a lead balloon, especially if Mo is no mo'. And Miami is a toss-up; talent they have in spades. But the schedule is pure hell, and the road games against the jilted B-Least teams could produce a shocker along the way.
In light of that, I think OU is the MOST solid choice of any team in the top 5. I think the entire 2003 season will be prelude to see who the Sooners will face in the Sugar Bowl.
