Full Version: A New Year, and a new me...

From the Outsports member formerly known as jim32809:

Last week I was laid off from my job as an airlines reservations agent. I won't say which one, but if you call an airline and have a 2 hour hold to get through, that's probably the one. I won't miss the job, even though my last call was a great one. Got a guy tickets from Tampa to San Diego for Super Bowl weekend for $339 and with 20k frequent flyer miles he upgraded to first class. A very, very good deal. Anyway, I'm not stressing about it... I'll most likely take the opportunity to look into getting a sports related job, perhaps out at Disney's Wide World of Sports, or perhaps at UCF or with the Orlando Magic or Predators.

To celebrate the new start in life, I've started up a new identity here. I'm using the name I use with ESPN Fantasy Games: BikeJocks. If you're wondering where the name comes from, I'll just say "think lockerrooms" and you should get it.

Also, since the college football season has wound down, I'll put the College Football Trivia on the shelf for now. It went to the back burner in the last month because of the holidays and other things that kept me busy. I've got a great question to start the next season with, so be ready.

Here's to 2003! It's gotta get better from here on out.

Jim,

Good luck on the new year. You know, they say that small acts of kindness come back in multiples, and in my experience that has certainly been the case. The fact that you got a great deal of satisfaction from helping this guy, when others would just "do their job," speaks to your character. You'll get this one back (and not just in the form of an unlikely FSU basketball championship ).

Let us know how events progress for you, and, uh, Scalp 'em dude!

P.S. Surgery is today. Talk to you in a few...

Bikejocks, sorry about the loss of a job you obviously enjoyed, but stay positive. The fact you went above & beyond to help a customer--even on your last day--speaks volumes about your character; that will be an asset in any new endeavor.

Gator Jamie: best wishes for a speedy recovery from the day's surgery.

Agree with Adam here. Stay positive no matter how hard the news seems to be these days. Look at this as an opportunity. Another door opening to maybe a new and different chapter in the book we call life! Good luck to you!

Here, here! Good luck to you, but with the upbeat attitude you've already got, no need for luck - YOU'll make it happen.
